Fully agree with Steve Pinker in that Harvard (and Stanford) have committed minor sins of calibration. But the current assault on Harvard and higher education is malicious and deranged; standing by and watching is not an option. nytimes.com/2025/05/23/opi…
All five US participants (including Agastya Goel) won a gold at the International Physics Olympiad. Congratulations to the team and the coaches! aapt.org/aboutaapt/U-S-…

People are worried that US universities will lose their edge because of Trump. Will not happen. We will work 25 hours, redouble mentoring efforts for PhD students, give them place to sleep on our couch and seat at our table. As my college friends would say: Khatola Yahin Bichega.
My heart goes out to colleagues at Harvard and all the students affected by Trump’s campaign against Harvard. This campaign has no basis in law, facts, morality, or national self interest. If any Harvard colleagues need assistance (within the bounds of law), please let me know
And this is how a technology developed to circumvent government control becomes the ultimate vehicle for crony capitalism: nytimes.com/2025/05/01/us/…

The AI bill of rights, coauthored by my old old friend @geomblog , has made its way into an executive order. That’s incredible regulatory impact, on one of the most salient issues of our time!
Today, I signed an Executive Order that is the most significant action any government has ever taken on AI safety, security, and trust. I am determined to do everything in my power to promote and demand responsible innovation.
Time to celebrate some friends: My good friend, former chief economic advisor of India, and currently a Director at the IMF has a new podcast:
What causes bad policy? ->Bad governance! Then, what causes bad governance? -> Separation of power & responsibility! Those w/ power having no accountability. Pakistan is a good example. India 2004-14 another example… Let’s NEVER FORGET! @BeerBicepsGuy youtube.com/shorts/CZ3Mi8j…
