One could conclude that the words we use and that those around us use change us on a biological level, and potentially there is nothing better for our physical being than finding someone who understands us and allows us to fully express that which is within.
I completely agree that psychotherapy is a vital tool for psychiatrists. Psychotherapy is as much of a biological intervention as it is a psychological one. This thread outlines findings from research. 🧵1/
There’s virtually nothing more wretched than a non-critical psychiatrist. They’re either resoundingly corrupt liars who know they’re destroying lives or they haven’t done 10-hours of due diligence in their lives and are more ignorant on mental health matters than a Scientologist.
Finished. And all I will say in conclusion is, “Holy. Fucking. Shit.”

Many abusers love to have their victims medicated because their power over them increases. No longer does the victim talk back or fight for themselves. They sit like a potato as the abuser mashes them or chops them up into French fries, whatever the abuser prefers.
“In 1985, outpatient sales of antidepressants and antipsychotics in the US amounted to $503 million. [In 2008]… $24.2 billion.”
Psychiatrists are the Jehovah’s Witnesses of medicine. The breakthrough research is always just around the corner, coming any day now, and believing that it’s not coming means you’re an antipsych heretic.
“When it comes to dead bodies in current psychotropic trials, there are a great number of them in the active treatment groups than in the placebo groups. This is quite different from what happens in penicillin trials or trials of drugs that really work.” - David Healy
The phrase “mental illness” inherently medicalizes psychological problems. That’s a problem.
Psychiatrists often pretend they have solutions to your problems. But the correct use of their toolkit is extremely limited. The truth is that the best solution to psychological problems is usually sobriety (even minimizing sugar and caffeine consumption) and time.
The chemical imbalance scam that turned millions of normal people into psychopharmaceutical consumers for life.
Are physicians still trained to tell their depressed patients that they have a chemical imbalance? Here's a recent flashcard preparing medical students for the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination). Their answer is (C). The problem is...
Don’t compromise your long-term success by refusing to sit with problems in the present that cannot be solved with a magic bullet. And be exceedingly skeptical when magic bullets are claimed to exist. If it sounds too good to be true, guess what.
I’m thinking about all the people who are trapped in psych wards right now and undergoing the extreme stress of trying to get out before they are trapped in a sterile and uninviting environment for the weekend, especially those who no longer meet the criteria for commitment.
90 days in prison costs the taxpayers on average $11,443.
Around the country, cities and towns are banning homeless encampments. Creating fines of up to $2,000 and jail time of up to 90 date. You can’t get rid of homelessness by simply getting rid of the people experiencing it.
