Thinking about code & design. Building @jazz_tools / @gardendotco. “Work sucks. Play works.”

What’s stopping you from switching to a Nothing Phone?
I've been yapping about "traditional DBs weren't made for high-write global real-time" for ages Never would have guessed it's that bad
Not long now! lu.ma/sync-london Talks are shaping up great and we’re well past venue capacity. @devYonz is airborn. @samwillis has sorted out the pineapple cubes and cocktail sausages. If you’re in London on Tuesday and have been lurking so far, now’s your last chance!
you know which other astronomer got publicly dragged for focusing on the wrong body
I have great affection for these fringe subcultures in computing, but as I get older, I'm becoming more demanding. I want the philosophy to be effective out in the world; otherwise, it's meaningless. Just a bunch of technologists talking to each other. Feckless.
People generally have no idea that there is a fringe subculture in computing that dives deep into the philosophy of representation with the goal of reinventing how we interface with computers.
FUTURE OF CODING LONDON is next week! Last chance to submit your awesome demos! (See the event on Luma)

Boomers be like “the kids don’t get the humour in Far Side” And then all the “best ones” are extremely mid gags with no depth that cause a femtochuckle at best. And this shit is contemporary with Calvin and Hobbes!!!! Every generation has their own slop…
My all time favorite
adding a "download your data" button is mandatory. adding an "upload data" button is the real hack. i can use my deployed app and dump my data into the dev environment for debugging anything. i can play reset and restore at any time. it's also nice for seeding your app or…
Product idea: Notion except every keystroke doesn't feel like I'm SSH'd into a server on Mars.
Sync engines are the most exciting new trend related to React.
Feels like nobody’s talking shit about React anymore. Weird side benefit of the AI hype?
Sync engines work pretty amazing with AI. Most apps are implementing AI as a "layer" above the app, that understands the domain and can make domain-model actions. Naturally, when all your app state is modeled in a single frontend database, implementing that becomes really simple.
Rebuttal and excuse to talk about @jazz_tools design choices: 1. Distributed state is the reality of any web app above a certain level of complexity. As soon as you implement some form of caching or optimistic update - you have to admit you’re dealing with a distributed system.…
im currently building a app i need myself with @jazz_tools and its pretty exciting the sync engine is the blackbox that allows you to sync state between clients, with a server worker being just another client. it syncs json structured data, but also files and images in my case…
Entrepreneurs and SMB in Germany are screwed if they try to operate internationally lol. Knowing this, I made @gardendotco a US Delaware C Corp. Now I consistently can’t even pay German contractors by international wire because Bayerische Landesbank insta-rejects it as fraud.
i've scheduled the next Munich TypeScript Meetup for august 6th. we'll meet at TUM in the center of munich for a true community edition. we can talk about whatever you want. reach out for talk proposals or RSVP on meeetup dot com :) food and drinks are covered by @jazz_tools ❤️
Modern computer hardware with substantially more sane software would feel straight out of science fiction.
TOMORROW. 🏁
T-3 days! The Codegen Speed Trials are happening THIS Saturday, 6/28 in SF. The speed trials are a fast, focused hackathon to explore what’s possible with AI copilots—brought to you by TheGP, @withgraphite, @jazz_tools, @RunloopAI, @OpenAI, @AnthropicAI and @cerebral_valley.…
I’ve been using “vibe coding” in a looser sense than Karpathy’s “fully blind” definition, for good reason. The biggest impact of AI tooling that I’ve seen is senior engineers a) using their ability to clearly specify what they want and *build* extremely quickly with LLMs b)…
You’re an engineer. You’ve got 5 hours. What can you build with a strong AI copilot? Codegen Speed Trials is a fast, focused hackathon to explore what’s possible with AI copilots—brought to you by TheGP, @withgraphite, @jazz_tools, @RunloopAI, @OpenAI & @AnthropicAI. June 28 @…
This whole thread is great. My take: young adults get stuck in limbo because there are so few “real” things to do and they intuitively know. Modern society is a marvel but is *still* a criminal misallocation of human potential. We need to cut the BS and mass produce meaning.
everybody knows that we're failing to turn young people into adults. the young people complain about it. the boomers complain about it. so how do we fix it?
