random discovery -- there are words in mandarin that look like english transliterations but are a bit off, like "gas" is 瓦斯 (wasi), and "club" is 俱樂部 (julebu). the reason is because they first circulated via japanese, where 瓦斯 is gasu ガス and 俱樂部 is クラブ !!
