I naively thought we could somehow save this app someday. With many regrets, I'm belatedly closing up shop here, and mea culpa for taking this long to do it. Find me on the butterfly app if that takes flight, as both archaeonado and AlmostArch

Very much looking forward to reading this. Tackles a similar time period to #CrucibleOfNations, one that is similarly underrepresented in Scottish history and archaeology

The joy of working in a Museum Store is when looking for Palaeolithic artefacts you come across a Medieval bone with doodles engraved on it. The bone is from Eynsham Abbey and has these wonderful motifs and an animal, perhaps a dog? Who practised their engraving? #CuratorLife
Introducing… the Peebles Hoard 🥁 ✨ It’s a spectacular collection of bronze, leather and wooden material dating to the Late Bronze Age (c.1000-800 BCE). Many of these objects have never been found before in Scotland. So, as you can imagine, we’re *pretty* excited
Delighted to finally share news about the work we've been doing on this hoard. Truly a privilege and highlight of my career.

Here's a fine new blog post by Cathy Dagg on bothan - the rounded beehive like sheiling structures found on Harris and Lewis in the Western Isles, which seem very different to their counterparts on the mainland. nosasblog.wordpress.com/2024/10/23/bot…
Huge new #Viking silver hoard dating c. AD 880x930 from Engeløya, northern Norway. 14 arm-rings and 1 necklace = 1040g ⚖️ "similar to types [from] 🇮🇪, 🏴, north 🏴" - nrk.no/nordland/nest-… 5 of the arm-rings are hooked together (paralleled with the Galloway Hoard of c.900).
