Algorithm-Assisted Redistricting Methodology Project. @Harvard team developing methodology and tools to analyze legislative redistricting.
Happy to share that Widespread Partisan Gerrymandering Mostly Cancels Nationally, but Reduces Electoral Competition is now forthcoming in PNAS. Congrats to @Chris_T_Kenny, @CoryMcCartan, @tylersimko, @shirokuriwaki, and Kosuke Imai! alarm-redist.org/posts/2023-04-…
Kosuke Imai and @ruthgreenwood of @harvard argue in this op-ed that their data viz resources are invaluable for the public to see the partisan skews of redistricting plans commonwealthmagazine.org/opinion/using-…
Our director, Kosuke Imai, has a new opinion piece with @ruthgreenwood out in @CommonWealthMag entitled "Using big data to make elections fairer," available at: commonwealthmagazine.org/opinion/using-…. alarm-redist.org/posts/2023-10-…

Proud of newly-minted Dr. Tyler Simko, who just successfully defended his dissertation, “Geographic Policy Evaluation in US State and Local Politics” — Hooray, @tylersimko!
New Jersey’s “county line” ballot design distorts voter choice by giving party-preferred candidates privileged positions on the ballot. @ProfNickStephan and I have an Op-Ed today @NJSpotlightNews arguing that voters should support eliminating the system: njspotlightnews.org/2024/03/op-ed-…
Our letter "Census officials must constructively engage with independent evaluations" by @Chris_T_Kenny, @CoryMcCartan, @tylersimko, and Kosuke Imai is out in PNAS. Read it here: pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
#rstats 📦alarmdata ("Download, Merge, and Process Redistricting Data") is now on CRAN. It provides a way to download and use our simulated plans with your data. Install with: install.packages("alarmdata") For an introduction and examples, read here: alarm-redist.org/posts/2024-03-…
ICYMI: In December, students from our summer research program wrote guest posts for our blog, detailing their analyses of redistricting in Virginia Beach, Charlotte, and Louisville. Take a look here: alarm-redist.org
redist 4.2.0 is now on CRAN. This release is mostly internal changes and cleanups, but it also includes support for multiple independent scoring functions in `redist_shortburst()`, as detailed in McCartan 2023, arxiv.org/abs/2304.00427.
To do all this, he's using the simulation packages developed by @alarm_redist, as well as @davesredist, and working with @CervasJ. Hear him tell about it! @princetongerry @ElectoralLab samwang.substack.com/p/redistrictin…
