At least 90 people have died today in clashes with the heavily armed @albd1971 , Chhatra League and Jubo League thugs and the police. And yet, the people remain defiant. The protestor's will be back for the next round and this time with all their might. The student leaders…

Death of a hero in Bangladesh. How Abu Saeed, a young man in Bangladesh protesting restrictive quota in government jobs in a stagnant economy, faced armed police alone with his mortal body. A hero who is as brave as the lone protester in Tiananmen Square facing rows of tanks. But…
Dozens were killed in protests against Bangladesh’s quota system, which favours the children of fighters in the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. Students are also demanding justice for those who have been killed during three weeks of protests.

Video shared by an opposition party in Bangladesh is said to show police detaining an imam as he led funeral prayers for students killed during demonstrations over government job quotas.
I’m deeply concerned by the ongoing violence in Bangladesh. The ongoing loss of life – including attacks on student protesters – is troubling and unacceptable. Democratic freedoms and the rule of law are essential and must be respected.
Take My Hand is a project done by my students @adildsw and @aashikazim, where we suggest the idea of using automated hand-based spatial guidance for people with visual impairments. adildsw.github.io/#/projects/fin…
I wanted to add my comments on this thread, NOT because I am dogpiling on the original paper and NOT because I want to criticize @FrankElavsky's comments. Instead, I thought I could add some nuance on this topic. 1/
Okay, I want to be as gentle as possible with a review of this now-award-winning work but there are some serious problems we need to make sure we don't repeat. Our technical HCI class yesterday *just* talked about @elizejackson's "disability dongle" and problematic access work.
However, it is not okay to make assumptions and judge others based on the assumptions – especially online, where the impact of a comment can be immense. (13/13)
Lastly, I want to ask people to respect and support others, especially student researchers. Constructive criticisms advance our society. (12/13)
🏆 So, our #CHI23 paper received a Best Paper Award, which is absolutely insane! @seongkook @aashikazim This work explores how hand auto-pilot can help enrich the interaction capabilities of individuals with visual impairment. Preprint: tinyurl.com/fingerrover
Super excited to have my first-ever first-authored paper "Take My Hand: Automated Hand-Based Spatial Guidance for the Visually Impaired" conditionally accepted (finally) for #CHI2023! Shoutout to my amazing co-authors @aashikazim and Professor @SeongkookHeo! (1/2)
