Arriving in ill humor since 1983. @earthjustice Environmental & Energy lawyer. Tweets my own.
On Friday night, FERC rejected the PJM utilities' attempted coup. Great work by state regulators in the region to oppose the utilities' self-serving proposal. FERC rejected the utilities on multiple grounds. elibrary.ferc.gov/eLibrary/filel…
The utilities’ goal is to control regional transmission development. Here’s how: 1) Give the PJM Board authority to change regional planning goals. 2) Gain power to preempt PJM actions or challenge them in secret before PJM acts. 3) Disempower PJM Members and everyone else.
Yesterday @ENERGY released a report warning of outages if 104 GW of planned retirements by 2030 were to happen. The report was written by @PNNLab and @NREL. The methodology is sound, but the assumptions and conclusions are not. This is my initial take 🧵 energy.gov/sites/default/…
The terminally online spiking the football as we plunge further into a climate catastrophe. Sweet.
You lost… 3+ years of effort to enact durable climate policy The policy stability you alleged in 2022 The cooperation of nonpartisans (incl libertarians) in the climate issue The argument that Rs shouldn’t spend like crazy on their issues when they have the majority
MISO's ERAS 2.0 proposal is such a rushed slop-fest of a filing that MISO is now needing to request that their newly proposed tariff language must be modified before FERC has even acted on it. elibrary.ferc.gov/eLibrary/filel…
This exchange. 😬
Who’s gonna tell him that Senators Lee, Johnson and Scott all voted for it!
Putting aside the basic factual misunderstandings here, imagine having the mental capacity to wax poetic about "excess costs" of renewables without batting an eyelash at the externalized costs of literally all fossil fuel power. We truly live in the dumbest timeline.
Most popular energy myth on X right now: Batteries were helpful on a given grid on a given day, therefore we need battery, solar, and wind subsidies. Truth: Without subsidies, batteries would be used, but less—since they wouldn’t need to compensate for solar/wind unreliability.…
🚨At the @FERC open meeting today Chairman Christie stated that he plans to stay at FERC through the July 2025 Open Meeting.

New data from @RockyMtnInst shows that EVERY U.S. state would have lost more money in 2024 if their coal plants had been self-committed 100% of the time. …-2025--sharp-noyce-377408.netlify.app/economic-dispa…
Hmmm. It’s almost like MISO’s ERAS proposal is a giant unnecessary boondoggle. #FERC rtoinsider.com/107764-miso-im…
#FERC denies extension request for a 6 workday comment period regarding a 1,000+ page filing (MISO's ERAS). MISO's proposal was submitted at #FERC sight unseen out of their stakeholder process. This is not the way to get meaningful public participation. elibrary.ferc.gov/eLibrary/filel…
