With that embrace, Shri Ram silenced all of Sugreev’s fears and reaffirmed, once you return to Dharm with a clear heart, you are not half-accepted, you are completely embraced. Doṣas aren’t a license to dwell in adharma. They are calls to rise, not reasons to remain fallen. 17/
As Sugreev, overwhelmed with remorse, falls at the feet of Bhagavān Rām with his head bowed low, Bhagavan Ram lifts the Vanararaj up with His own hands and embraces him with profound love and deep respect, not a trace of resentment, no distance in heart, offers him upadesh. 16/
- O Sugreev, your strength and the purity of your heart make you truly deserving of the supreme glory of the Vanara kingdom. With you as His ally, Shri Ram will destroy His enemies in battle, there is no doubt in this. 15/
Lakshman ji no longer holds anger or doubt. His clarity returns, and without any trace of suspicion in his heart, he accepts Sugreev fully exactly as before.
- O Lashmana, if this servant has transgressed, whether out of trust or deep devotion, still, may You forgive. For in all creation, is there any sevak who has never erred? 13/
घृताच्यां किल संसक्तो दश वर्षाणि लक्ष्मण। अहोऽमन्यत धर्मात्मा विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ॥ - Vishwamitra, though steadfast in Dharm, believed that ten years passed as a single day while attached to Ghritachi. Such is the power of desire it clouds even the wise. 12/
- Sugreev, once crushed by long periods of suffering, has now fallen into deep indulgence. In this comfort, he has lost awareness of time just as even the great sage Vishwamitra did when overcome by Menaka’s charm. 11/
As Lakshman ji burns with righteous anger, Tara steps forward not to defend Sugreev’s actions, but to explain the fragile condition of the human heart when overtaken by desire. सुदुःखशयितः पूर्वं प्राप्येदं सुखमुत्तमम् । प्राप्तकालं न जानीते विश्वामित्रो यथा मुनिः ॥ 10/
Lakshman ji warns Sugreev, “The path Vali took away from Dharm and duty is still open. Don’t follow it. Stay true to your promise. Arrogance and forgetfulness led to Vali’s fall. Let his fate be your reminder, not your destination. 9/
Tara tells Lakshman ji, “Your anger shows you may not fully understand desire’s grip. Even the wise lose sight of time, duty, and judgment when overcome by it. Sugreev, lost in indulgence, forgot his dignity. But he’s your brother, please forgive him". 8/
Lakshman ji tells Tara, "For one striving for Dharm and Artha, indulgence in wine is ruinous it destroys Dharm, Artha, Kama. A friend who fails to return a favor loses both righteousness and gain. Sugreev, in neglecting Ram ji, has abandoned both Dharm and loyal friendship". 7/
Hanuman ji gently admonishes Sugreev, "The fault lies with you, and therefore, I see no other proper course but for you to seek Lakshmana’s forgiveness with folded hands. Only through his grace can harmony be restored". 6/
Sugreev’s words reveal a deep blindness born of ignorance though Lakshman’s anger is clear, Sugreev denies fault and blames others. This exposes how straying from Dharm clouds self-awareness, making one blind to their own failings while projecting blame outward. 5/
Bound by his promise, Ram waits in patience. Sugreev, however, becomes absorbed in kāmabhoga-vṛtti takes over. He forgets his word, indulging in sensory comfort, neglecting both Dharm and gratitude. 4/
When Sugreev, aided by Sri Ram, defeats his elder brother Vali and regains the kingdom of Kiṣkindhā, he vows to assist Sri Ram in His search for Maa Sita. But time passes. 3/
Sugreev's fall in the Ramayan reveals a timeless truth when comfort & physical pleasure cloud the mind, even the faithful may stray. Yet Dharm lies not in never falling, but in rising with resolve. Parabrahma seeks no perfection, only sincere return and unshaken sankalpa. 2/
Prasanga Sangrah 🌸 ~ A] The Kishkindhā Kāṇḍa Prasaṅgaḥ : The Sugreev Prasanga from Kishkindhā Kāṇḍa presents a striking example of how even a person firmly rooted in Dharm can momentarily lose direction. 1/
There’s no need to be burdened by doshas unless they become habits or lead us away from Dharm. Falling is part of the journey what matters is rising each time with deeper resolve, walking the path of Dharm again with unwavering faith and greater dedication.
