Our paper (w/@ishtiaqueSIA), "A Civics-oriented Approach to Understanding Intersectionally Marginalized Users' Experience with Hate Speech Online," developing the idea of "usership" on the metaphor of citizenship in moderation focusing Bangladeshi Adivasis got accepted to #ICTD24

“The motivation to consider Bengali was clear, being a widely spoken and low-resource language. However, the reviewers missed some discussion on generalizing the conclusions of this paper to languages other than Bangali.” Is such a question usually asked for English nlp paper?

Excited to share that I have received a postdoctoral fellowship from @UofT_Pandemics! With this, I will continue to work on ethics, fairness, and bias of algorithmic systems with @ishtiaqueSIA at @UofTCompSci!

If you don't know any reviewers who can evaluate qualitative work, say so in the CFP. Statements like "The paper is missing structure for replicating and scaling interviews" say little about the research but a lot about the reviewers' methodological prejudice and narrowness.

I know the recent violence definitely doesn't represent most of the majority, but as a Bangladeshi minority, I appreciate them speaking up like for other issues in country. While some opportunists are exaggerating the incidents, denying/downplaying the violence is also unjust.
