What does it look like to “give up on public schools”? Because leaving your own kids in a school that doesn’t meet their needs = “giving up on your children.”
I’ve talked to a couple families who pulled their kids out of the public school because of this sort of thing. I doubt if there will ever be a reckoning, but I hope there is. They take money from parents to pay administrators who then use the parents money to basically take…
We should revive the old idea of a liberal arts college, where students got a broad education in the arts and sciences (once called the "disciplines"), and house technological studies in vocational centers and research in specialized research centers.
I’ll make the NEA a deal: when public schools provide the majority of students with a comprehensive education experience that results in 85% of non-special education students performing at or above grade level, we can have this conversation about homeschooling.
Happy Pioneer Day! I wrote this wayfaremagazine.org/p/sang-as-they…
$8K per student is actually a tremendous value with great ROI. The notion that they have one shot to get this right is super critical. I applaud parents like these for seeing the essential value of their children’s education as it is such a treasure to affect their lives in a…
“I never thought we would be at a private school, especially in Wyoming. However, being pro-classical education, especially in Cody, definitely makes me pro-school choice. We have exactly one chance to get our kids’ educational foundation right, and it matters.”…
I'm reading Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism, and I think it might just change my life. Has anyone else read it?
From 2013 to 2023, Florida created 706 new private schools, a 31% increase over the decade. > Parents love school choice

The broken promises of compulsory education have led to a flurry of innovation in K-12. @lancelands
In light of the recent Mahmoud decision, I take on the question in my latest @EpochTimes column: Why should compulsory education exist any longer in California? I suspect the same question could be asked in any other state, on which my friend, @Kerry_edu, has so eloquently…
If you have not done so already, now is the time to write out your family pedagogy for your children's education. Education is never value neutral. You, the parent, have the responsibility to ensure curriculum aligns with your convictions. Do not settle for anything less.
Here's an idea: Give public school students ESAs, let public schools set tuition rates, and allow kids to pocket the difference for higher ed, tutors, curricular materials, etc. Seriously. Overhaul K-12 finance systems so that *every* kid gets an ESA, not just school choice…
Turns out that GOP is actually OK with paying for college tuition as long as recipients are affluent and funds are funneled through school vouchers. Unbelievable.
I never would have considered dedicating a book to an entire state. 🤷♀️

Technology first helped us avoid physical tasks. Now it helps us avoid mental tasks. Which is worse?
Anyone can learn to do what they need, when they need it, without taking classes. It might take time. Start now. Don't let the gatekeepers convince you that their permission is required for your impact. The students I have served for over 35 years didn't need my credentials; they…
Homeschooling is mainstream. Who'd have thought this would happen so quickly?
