This seems to be very interesting but I am concerned with ethical issues in this research. It is unimaginable that Cambridge colleges could grant the investigator full access to interview data. So, this research will be “telling the Cambridge story well” as well…

Where does this Western obsession with Tianxia/All-under-heaven come from? Chinese leaders and senior officials make/publish hundreds of speeches/papers every year on foreign policy, I don't remember seeing Tianxia appearing in any significant way.
Reading amazing scholarship like this makes you wonder to what extent the 1911/12 divide is still applicable to modern Chinese history!

Back to reading and finished this new translation of the history of the Republic of China (originally in French). Very strong synthesis of the economic, political, social, and cultural in the last four chapters. Less focused on the revolutionary narrative.
