Temperatures could soar above 45°C (113°F) today across the Plain of Catania in Sicily, Italy, as a remarkably warm air mass spreads from North Africa into Southern Europe. This region holds the record for the highest temperature in continental Europe, with 48.8°C recorded in…

So far in 2025, wildfires have burned more than 450 km² of land across the UK, surpassing anything seen in recent years by a wide margin.

An impressive upwelling event has occurred across the NW Mediterranean Sea over the past few days. Sea surface temperatures along the south coast of France have dropped by up to 10°C in less than 24 hours in some spots. This is only temporary however.
The western Mediterranean Sea is absurdly warm at the moment, with nearly half of the basin exhibiting SST anomalies greater than +3°C. A buoy near the island of Mallorca, Spain reported a water temperature of 31°C earlier today. This is bonkers for this time of year.
Newly available high-resolution satellite imagery collected by Maxar shows the village of Blatten, Switzerland, almost completely buried after the collapse of the Birch Glacier. Truly catastrophic.
Potential rainfall around the Alps between today and Friday night continues to look pretty ugly. Based on the current forecast, some locations may receive over 400 mm of rain within a 48-hour period. The hotspot appears to be the Piedmont region in northwest Italy.
Newly available high-resolution satellite imagery collected by Maxar reveals sections of the surface rupture near the zone of maximum surface displacement of last week’s Mw 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar. Rupture is ~500 km long, with up to 5 meters of fault slip.
Spain’s capital, Madrid, has recorded 920% of its average March rainfall, with 230 mm. In stark contrast, other European capitals experienced one of their driest Marches ever.

Watch the waves from yesterday’s M7.6 earthquake in the Caribbean Sea roll across seismic stations in North America.
A record breaking 47 inches (120 cm) of snow fell in just 12 hours, burying Obihiro, Hokkaido. This is the highest 12-hour snow total ever recorded in Japan.
More acres have been burned by wildfires in January 2025 across California than in all the Januarys of the past 30+ years combined. Unreal.

Watching a storm undergo explosive cyclogenesis is truly one of the most spectacular meteorological processes to witness. Éowyn has just proven this once again.
An extremely dangerous and potentially record-breaking bomb cyclone is just hours away from severely impacting Ireland, especially, and parts of the UK. Storm Éowyn will unfortunately reach its peak intensity right at landfall with wind gusts possibly exceeding 200 km/h.

New drone shot from Pacific Palisades shows entire blocks of homes literally burned to the ground. The Palisades Fire alone could become the "costliest" fire in U.S. history. Courtesy of @KitKarzen

In case you missed it, 2024 was the wettest year ever recorded in Paris, France, since records began 152 years ago in 1873.

Extensive damage is being reported across parts of eastern Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul after a massive QLCS plowed through the region in recent hours.
