The govt says they'll build with nature in mind. Birds reliant on our 🏡 need swift bricks, a uniquely vital measure, to be mandated to save them from extinction. On the 2YEAR anniversary of #TheFeatherSpeech We ask @AngelaRayner @mtpennycook @SteveReedMP to act @ZacGoldsmith
First bird of my day: possibly the same wood pigeon in the same place. Everything is the same except the sky. Stratus clouds hang low with pink tinted streaks of blue sky behind. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
Glorious cloudless sky here, and the #FirstBirdOfMyDay, the Swifts, are going mad around the balcony. We have a new resident in box 8! He’s been popping in and out for 2 days to claim his home so I’m hoping he’ll be back next year 😺
I wrote about *not swifts* in Country Life. (Still birds though!). Pick up the latest @Countrylifemag & read about farmers helping farmland birds. Thanks @_BTO @FarmlandBirds @jake_fiennes @RealFarmED
Day 3 This is a video of the first feed. Perked up since. …. feeding Boudicca is like feeding a while school of hungry teenagers.
First bird of my day: Daddy blackbird looking like he needs a holiday, in the silent July garden, surrounded by drenched cornflowers and marigolds and cosmos. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
Day 2 No I’m not making a cake, I’m weighing Boudicca. Swifts have to be the right weight to be able to fly (around 40g). Boudicca is 25g. This bird isn’t ready for the sky yet. It’s ready for ALOT OF FOOD.
Day 1. MEET BOUDICCA this young swift was found on the ground in v hot weather. Not intervening would ensure its death. So… I am a swift mother. Caring for it = an honour & a challenge. This is WHO we’re fighting for. Ask your MP to sign this EDM edm.parliament.uk/early-day-moti…
First bird of my day: a screaming party of 20 swifts, flying high over the meadows in a sky so blue it looks flat and solid like a backdrop. I *wish* I could join them. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
First bird of my day: almost the same as yesterday - a wood pigeon on the chimney opposite underneath a dull, grey, beautifully wet sky. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
18th July: the two juvenile Swifts in my nestbox are now almost ready to fly! Meanwhile adult Swifts are constantly flying overhead, screaming, and any day now the youngsters will join them for a life in the skies... @SoSSwifts @WriterHannahBT @suffolkwildlife @Natures_Voice
First bird of my day: wood pigeons on the roof opposite, sitting in the rain. Petrichor is filling the air. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
I can hear my favourite sound (swifts, obvs). What’s your favourite sound ?
