This is like the Kitty Dukakis question from way back. It got some pushback back then, so to be fair I can understand their reaction. And while it's unpleasant, it's a fair question. Politicians are often removed intellectually from the effects of their policy.

How on earth was that a threatening question? Guarantee what happened was he asked what it would take to revoke your credentials. The answer was "he threatens you." So he took an innocent, albeit provocative, question and said he felt it was a threat.
