In June 1923, President Warren G. Harding embarked on a journey across the U.S. called the “Voyage of Understanding.” It also marked the final weeks of Harding’s life; before he could complete his return to Washington, he suddenly died from a suspected heart attack. Learn more.
Admire the exquisite elegance and intricate details as you enter the Vermeil Room! Originally a ladies' cloakroom, it became home to the White House’s gilded silver in 1958 when heiress Margaret Thompson Biddle bequeathed over 1,500 pieces of vermeil to the Executive Mansion.
