As context, prior to the fall of the regime, it was believed that HTS had around 30-60k fighters. Also, unrelated, but prior to the fall of the regime, reports suggest the SDF had 100k. So 200k is a ton.
200k were part of the general mobilization that led to the massacre. In light of last week’s events, it puts into stark terms how many people have access to weapons and how little control the state truly has over them. Not surprising considering the civil war. Lot of work to do.
