On This Day 26th July 1917. Continued German attacks north of the Aisne and at Mont Haut (Champagne) are reportedly repulsed.

On This Day 24th July 1917. The French counter attack and regain ground lost north of the Aisne.
On This Day 24th July 1916. The Germans continue counter-attacks at High Wood and Guillemont.

On This Day 23rd July 1918. The British armed mercantile cruiser "Marmora" south of Ireland, was torpedoed and sunk by SMS UB-64 who fired a torpedo into her side. Distress signals went out, several destroyers responded to her location, its reported all but ten men were rescued.

On This Day 23rd July 1916. The Second phase of the Battle of the Somme begins. Intense fighting in and around Pozieres with the British recapture of Longueval, but the Germans manage to retake the north end of the village. The Outskirts of Guillemont twice changes hands.

On This Day 22nd July 1917. Stubborn resistance by the French against determined and violent German attacks on the Aisne front.

On This Day 19th July 1916. The German attacks on Longueval and Delville Wood continues, but the British regain some lost ground and manage to repulse the German attack on the Waterlot Farm.
