Sierra Leone receives 50,000 new mpox vaccine doses, supported by @WHO, @AfricaCDC, @gavi, @UNICEFSL & partners. This fourth batch of vaccines arrive at a time the government, WHO and partners are deploying teams to all districts to bring the outbreak to an end. #vaccineswork




WHO & Institute Pasteur Dakar team met with the district lab team to explore solutions for timely and safe sample transportation. They also visited the treatment & isolation unit at Makeni Regional Hospital to assess ongoing case management efforts.




WHO is supporting the transfer of mpox drugs and essential medical supplies to the newly identified treatment center at Levuma CHC. This ensures timely care for affected patients and strengthens the national outbreak response. #mpoxresponse #WHO




Active case search and contact line listing continue across districts and chiefdoms in response to the #mpox outbreak. Today, WHO Incident Manager Dr. Margaret Lamunu is on the ground, actively participating in field efforts.




Intensified mpox sensitization is ongoing nationwide. In Bandajuma, WHO teams joined national & district responders to engage shops, markets, pharmacies, & homes—including the pharmacy owner who identified the first case. Community awareness is key to early detection and response




WHO supervisor teams are on the ground! Working alongside national and district teams, they’ve joined door-to-door Mpox sensitization activities across communities, including homes with confirmed cases. These efforts aim to stop the spread through education and early action.




In Port Loko, WHO supervisors engaged with the district case management team to assess current capacity, identify gaps, and review the case management center supporting efforts to strengthen the mpox response.




In Koinadugu, WHO handed over essential medical supplies to bolster the mpox response and joined the district hospital in presenting discharge cards to survivors, symbolizing steps towards recovery and resilience.



The national and district response teams, with support from WHO & partners, are rolling out orientation on the enhanced mpox response strategy across all 16 districts. This effort equips DHMTs, chiefdom supervisors, and clinicians to strengthen the response and stop the outbreak.




WHO supervisors visited Fourah Bay College campus in the Leicester zonal area, a high-risk zone in Western Area Rural, as vaccinations were underway. Their presence underscores the importance of quality, oversight & commitment to public health.
