Account of the United Nations #WFP Country Director in #Rwanda 🇷🇼 WFP is dedicated to saving & changing the lives of the people we serve!
In my work with @WFP here in #Rwanda, I’m often reminded that food alone isn’t enough. Clean water & good hygiene are just as vital to keep children healthy. That’s why we pair school meals with #water, sanitation & hygiene support, helping kids stay strong & build their future.

UNW Rep @JennetKem led the @UNRwanda Gender, Human Rights & Diversity Inclusion group in a sensitisation workshop on gender, rights & inclusivity-based programming at UNICEF, equipping staff with tools to integrate these principles in the new UN Cooperation Framework 2025–2029.
“The Social and Behaviour Change Communication for Nutrition (SBCC-N) project exemplifies what we can achieve through collaboration, innovation, and community-driven action. This journey has been one of growth, adaptation, and mutual learning – underpinned by a shared vision:…
Seeing how unpredictable seasons have been affecting harvests & putting #foodsecurity at risk, is a clear reminder of why #resilience matters. At @WFP, we’re working with farmers to strengthen resilience thru #climate-smart agriculture & practical support that helps them adapt.

Every time food prices rise, I see its impact on families here in #Rwanda. No parent should have to choose between feeding their children or paying for other essentials. That’s why at @WFP, we focus on supporting #farmers to grow more, earn more & keep food accessible for all.

🙏Thanks to @LUinKigali for visiting Mahama camp to observe how their recent #humanitarian contribution benefits newly arriving asylum seekers, and see how WFP & partners work to improve refugee livelihoods & self-reliance through income generating activities like fish farming.🐟

🤝Today, UNRC @Ozonnia welcomed H.E. Amb. Gao Wenqi of China for a strategic dialogue on strengthening the UN-China cooperation in Rwanda. They discussed advancing UN–China collaboration in Rwanda on solar energy access, agri-tech innovation and sustainable development financing
Proud to see that protecting the communities we serve remains our top priority, even in times of shrinking resources. At the UN inter-agency #PSEA event, UN partners & CSOs discussed ways to sustain critical prevention & response efforts to stop Sexual Exploitation & Abuse.✋

This #YouthSkillsDay, meet Mutabazi, a 23-year-old farmer from Kaboku Cooperative in @NyagatareDistr. With support from @WFP, @FAORwanda, @IFADEastAfrica & @RwandaAgriBoard, he’s learned maize drying techniques to improve food safety & quality to yield better market prices.
Seeing Tuyisenge’s joy because she’s now able to grow her own food with @WFP’s support, is truly inspiring. With continued support, she and more than 115,000 other #refugees still receiving WFP food assistance can move beyond aid.

An inspiring dialogue w/ WFP ED @CindyMcCain, DED @CarlSkau & Rwanda’s Minister of Ag. Hon. @mcbagabe, on strengthening our collaboration. From humanitarian aid to self-reliance, together we’re investing in people, empowering farmers & advancing food security for all in Rwanda.

Thank you Hon. @mcbagabe for the great exchange in Rome. We are grateful for Rwanda’s continued partnership with @WFP in ensuring a food secure future for all.
Yesterday in Rome, Hon. @mcbagabe met with @WFP Executive Director @CindyMcCain. WFP praised Rwanda’s commitment to inclusive agricultural growth. They discussed empowering women, supporting smallholder farmers, and assisting refugees.
Young Agri-innovators supported by @WFP brought fresh energy to #RwandaAgriShow2025, showcasing homegrown farming and food innovations. Their businesses are advancing sustainable #foodsystems, creating jobs, and improving food & nutrition security.

In #Rwanda, 120,000+ refugees rely on @WFP for their daily meals. But funding gaps have led to reduced food rations. Less food forces #refugees to make heartbreaking choices, such as selling assets, pulling children from school, or returning home despite risks. #WorldRefugeeDay

With few opportunities to work or return home, food assistance is a vital safety net for #refugees as they try to rebuild their lives. In #Rwanda, limited funding has forced @WFP to cut food rations for over 115,000 refugees like Esperance by up to 75%.
