An important lesson for #EarthDay2025: In 2024, Washington eradicated the murder hornet. That success didn’t come from government studies or bureaucracy. It came from cooperation and innovation. When stakes are high, markets are best at delivering environmental results. 1/2

Two notes: 1. Programs that reward conservation when prices are high are fantastic. Market-based price signals save energy and cut costs. 2. The article has good ways to save energy including, "Cook dinner later or outside..." BBQ saves the planet!🍖 #waleg
Conservation during heat waves is especially effective at keeping pollution out of the air. The gas-burning power plants that get fired up during peak demand typically pollute much more than everyday electricity sources. kuow.org/stories/washin…
Appropriately, today I came across this quote today from the former Undersecretary for Science in the Obama Administration: “When actions to reduce emissions are weakened by conflating them with other goals, it belies claims that we're facing an imminent existential threat.”
It is a contradiction to say that climate change is an existential crisis and then believe that government bureaucracies can solve the problem. The more you care about the environment, the less you should trust politicians and government. #waleg
Supporters of Washington's CO2 tax - the highest in North America - claim it needed to address impacts of climate change. But much of it just goes to more government. E.G. $4 million to address "flooding" goes to staff, planning, and "facilitation." No actual projects. #waleg

If your solution to poverty requires giving politicians more power, you don't understand poverty.

Thanks jackass. “But I am also going to act on my own if Congress is deadlocked. I've got a pen to take executive actions where Congress won't…" - @BarackObama
When I look at politics today, I keep coming back to this scene from Broadcast News. Each violation of constitutional principles and political norms is justified incrementally. And that’s how the devil wins.
It is remarkable how many of Washington state’s programs or metrics are the “most expensive” in the nation. We simply do not care if government actually works. Washington’s workers’ compensation benefit costs remain the highest in the country - researchcouncil.org/washingtons-wo… #waleg
A NW tribal leader says this about salmon returns: “They’re nowhere near healthy, harvestable, abundant numbers, and they’re definitely not even close to the historical numbers..." Based on that information alone, what run could he talking about? #waleg
A great two-minute summary of the mess that is @SoundTransit. And this only scratches the surface. #waleg

America makes the promise of hard work and opportunity a reality for many. Unlike in Vietnam, Kim didn't need connections to work hard and succeed. #waleg #America250
