Also this month we lost Billy April. I first became aware of him as part of duo Funkrew. Success was always just out of reach, even renaming themselves Strengh for their best song Gotta Be Strong. But then April formed Drizabone. Their first single was a game changer.

Can I just say there is nothing more patriotic than Herb Alpert (and his Tijuana Brass!) Happy July 4th! #redwhiteandblue🔴⚪️🔵 #july4th

The other week we also lost Cavin Yarbrough, of Yarbrough and Peoples. There’s no doubting how much of a game changer Don’t Stop the Music was, even if they never recaptured that song’s success. I hadn’t been aware of their shift into theatre and film over the last two decades.

Because there's no such thing as *too much* Chow Yun-fat , especially with a screening today of classic HONG KONG 1941 at @BFI Southbank as part of @FocusHKfilm. And who knows, you might even hear this on today's playlist? 🤣

Marc Kinchen’s remix of Push The Feeling On was and still is iconic, but it drowned out John’s sweet blue-eyed soul voice heard on this first single. Took me ages to confirm he was also the voice of This Way Up with Culture Club's Roy Hay. RIP John Robinson Reid

Genuinely excited about this album, but I guess I 'bought in' getting the 45! Nice to see @omarlyefookMBE covered in the press... theguardian.com/music/2025/jun…

Team Suzuki's design for the gatefold of the new @okgo got me thinking about other playful album covers and packaging of the past. Obviously, there's #PeterSaville and @neworder, but so many more. What's your favourite? #suckerforapopup

A great interview with @officialbillycobham. Interesting to see Massive Attack mentioned on the use of Stratus, but not @soulsofmischief and their use of Heather – my absolute fave from Crosswinds, atmospheric and quite @johncarpenterofficial-esqe – on classic 93 'Til Infinity...

I kept going down that Tatsuro 'Tatsu' Yamashita 山下 達郎 rabbit hole, and fell in love with Love Talkin' from 1982's For You, only to eventually realise it's a 'known thing' on the soul weekender circuit. Well, it is fab! #wednesdayWorm #earworm

Will Powers' Kissing with Coincidence has wheedled its way back into my brain. The breezy kickback not unlike co-writer Nile Rodgers's production of Why, Carly does vocals here. Lynn Goldsmith's deep-voiced self-help guru now sounds prescient #underrated #wednesdayWorm #earworm

I love the @mastersatwork_1 and @laindiaofficial take on TO BE IN LOVE, particularly the original 12" with La India's lines about 'this lovely remix...' Nothing can make me smile more. But lately I'm really feeling the @RBLmusicNYC Ricanstruction Vocal! #wednesdayWorm #earWorm
