Congratulations to all of the co-authors but especially my @USC_Econ colleague Monica. When I was the department chair, we hired Monica and several senior economists at Yale emailed me telling me that she would thrive at @usc.
Forthcoming in the AER: "Labor Market Power, Self-Employment, and Development" by Francesco Amodio, Pamela Medina, and Monica Morlacco. aeaweb.org/articles?id=10…
Congratulations to all of the co-authors but I'm going to focus on the last author. David has joined the @USC_Econ faculty. When he presented this paper at USC, I kept thinking about the crowding out effect caused by the powerful unions. (1/2)
"This article identifies which investments in school facilities help students and which are valued by homeowners." NEW in @QJEHarvard by Barbara Biasi, Julien Lafortune, and David Schönholzer: academic.oup.com/qje/article/14…
A good interview with our new (interim) President!
Guided by a deep connection to the Trojan Family, interim President Beong-Soo Kim is championing academic excellence, interdisciplinary research, & innovative ideas that shape the future of USC. uscne.ws/kim-x
Happy USC economists! (Not an oxymoron!!) Some great members of @USC_Econ are participating in @The_IGC events in Uganda.
Darn... 😞
At @USC_Econ , I have been scouting talent at rival departments. This group will only consider a joint cluster hire.
Congrats to undergraduate student Minnie Zhang who was one of four finalists in this year's Undergraduate Student Research Program of the Western Economics Association International (WEAI)! Minnie and the other finalists presented their papers at the 100th Annual WEAI Conference!

We're super proud that yesterday's international conference in Kampala was co-organized by Associate Professor Vittorio Bassi and @The_IGC : "Making Growth in Uganda Sustainable: Insights from Frontier Research" and attended by Vittorio and several of our PhD students!

Last Thursday's NYC Economics Alumni Network event at Jungle Bird drew a great group of both "repeat" participants from our hosted March dinner and some new to our network - welcome!

Tuition paying parents are aware of this fact. At @usc_econ we have built up an undergraduate program that is both interesting and skills focused. We have thought through how we staff our teaching matrix. We owe our students a great education. Competition!!
"studying economics boosted annual early-career wages by $22,000 compared to students' second-choice majors—a return roughly as large as enrolling in college in the first place." aeaweb.org/research/retur…
Our inaugural DC Economics Alumni networking event was well attended last night - this chapter is officially launched! We also networked with some Economics Alumni-to-be as our DC campus Economic Policy class students celebrated the end of their Maymester in the same restaurant!

Congratulations Rashad! Rashad and I were colleagues at @usc_econ. He tried to teach me some time series econometrics. Intention to treat! scholar.google.com/citations?user…

😍
Happy 95th Birthday, Tommy Trojan! The Shrine was unveiled June 6, 1930 - the same year the first FIFA World Cup kicked off, Pluto was discovered, Scotch tape hit shelves, Mickey Mouse got a comic strip, & the U.S. got its national anthem. 🎉 🔗 uscne.ws/Tommys95th
