The @USArmy’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI) started as a way to ID units—but it’s become a symbol of unity and pride for Soldiers past and present. This month’s #Army101 features a few of the SSIs displayed around the Museum. See if you identify the unit!
On July 18, 1863, the 54th Massachusetts charged Fort Wagner in brutal combat. Though forced to retreat, Sgt. William Carney carried the flag despite being shot twice. He earned the #MedalofHonor in 1900. See the flag fragment: thenmusa.org/exhibit/preser… #USArmy
