The impact of global funding cuts on refugees across Southern and Eastern Africa region is immense. Humanitarians are doing all they can to support but soaring needs are fast outstripping available resources. More resources are required.
🆕 📢@WFP has started airdropping food in #SouthSudan’s Upper Nile State where conflict has displaced thousands and pushed some communities to the brink of famine. Over 1 million people across Upper Nile are facing acute hunger. wfp.org/news/wfp-airdr…

#Mozambique Humanitarian access in Cabo Delgado remained critically challenged in some areas in June due to: ❗️Violence against civilians 💥Armed clashes 👣Rising displacement amid limited resources 🧾Bureaucratic impediments reliefweb.int/node/4166106

In #Uganda’s Bidibidi refugee settlement, people struggle to survive on the dwindling food rations they receive. Defying the odds of a harsh climate, refugees are growing their own food to break dependency on humanitarian assistance.
🚨 People of #Somalia are losing their only source of support. Severe funding cuts have crippled the humanitarian response, leaving millions without food, water or basic services. Partners are being forced to scale back or shut down entirely – just when people need it most. ⬇️
💙 Early action pays off in Eritrea! Thanks to early funding from @UNCERF, the government and @FAO acted just in time, protecting harvests and livelihoods. The result? Locust outbreak averted and a 20x return on investment – only halfway through the project.
🔻“I wanted to end my life,” said Omnia*, a survivor of brutal conflict-related sexual violence in Sudan. In Sudan, Burundi, Somalia, South Sudan and beyond, life-saving care for women and girls is vanishing due to devastating aid cuts.
“Children in Darfur are being starved by conflict & cut off from the very aid that could save them.”-@unicefssudan The risk of mass child mortality is growing rapidly in areas already near famine thresholds. We need unimpeded humanitarian access to provide life-saving support👇🏾

In eastern #DRCongo, where women and girls are suffering from violence, @UNFPA and partners are delivering reproductive health kits to hospitals, ensuring safe deliveries, neonatal care, contraception and support for survivors of rape. drc.unfpa.org/en/news/unfpa-…

#SouthSudan marks 14 years of independence amid one of its worst humanitarian crises. ❗️Worst-ever cholera outbreak and the world’s deadliest outbreak so far. ❗️More than 83,000 people facing famine. ❗️Tensions escalate, threatening renewed conflict.

The catastrophe in #Sudan defies words. Over 2 years of relentless fighting has torn apart lives, and pushed millions into hunger, disease and despair. Photojournalist Giles Clarke visited the country with support from @UNOCHA and @UNDP. Here’s what he has witnessed👇🏾
The humanitarian situation along the Ethiopia–South Sudan border has rapidly deteriorated due to escalating violence and political instability in #SouthSudan. @UNCERF has allocated $3 million to provide assistance for refugees and host communities.
