You're invited! 🎉 Please join us for the Carolina Summer Fellowship student research presentations! 📅 July 24th 📍 Bioinformatics 1131 Celebrate amazing student discoveries with us! #CarolinaSummer

🔍 Amazing first steps! This summer, Carolina Summer Fellow Jordan Boyce started mapping key brain pathways in infants with autism in Dr. Jessica Girault’s lab @jessica_girault to help deepen early understanding of the condition!

🎉Cue the celebration, Dr. Laura Ferguson stepped into her lab space @UNC_PHCO for the very first time!🥳 The Ferguson Lab focuses on the molecular underpinnings of addiction and psychiatric illness. Using omic data, they are developing molecular biomarkers to improve treatment!
What an incredible summer!🌟 We were honored to host our brilliant CSF students for a season full of discovery and growth. Huge thanks to our amazing faculties, bench mentors, ambassadors, directors, and admin — this experience wouldn’t be possible without you!🙌#CarolinaSummer

🧫 So proud of Carolina Summer Fellow Courtney Copeland who studied RNA splicing in Rous Sarcoma Virus in the Ron Swanstrom lab, delving into unique viral mechanisms with implications for cancer biology! #CarolinaSummer

🧠 Shoutout to Carolina Summer Fellow Anh Ly, who took a deep dive into how neurons in the cerebral cortex work together, thanks to Dr. Eva Anton’s lab for the incredible opportunity! #CarolinaSummer

⚡ Exciting progress! Carolina Summer Fellow Gabrielle Wilson tested the effects of tACS treatment in Dr. Donita Robinson’s lab, showing promise to improve memory after alcohol exposure during adolescence. #CarolinaSummer

🧪 Big kudos to Carolina Summer Fellow Natalie Fiur, who researched ways to block harmful proteins in ALS while working in Dr. Alison Axtman’s lab, bringing fresh hope to this tough disease. #CarolinaSummer

💡 As always, Carolina Summer Fellow Maggie Hynek made strides in Dr. Lee Graves’ lab testing new compounds that might help fight brain cancer. This work could change lives! #CarolinaSummer

🌿 Big shoutout to Carolina Summer Fellow Samara Uzoma, who explored how nicotine and alcohol together affect brain cells differently in males and females while working in Dr. Melissa Herman’s lab @MelissaHerman4. Incredible findings! #CarolinaSummer

✨ This summer, Carolina Summer Fellow Leah Simmons took on brain research in Dr. Fulton Crews’ lab, discovering how inflammation impacts key brain cells tied to learning and memory. Can’t wait to share her findings! 🧠#CarolinaSummer

🌟 Exciting news! Carolina Summer Fellow Angel Figueroa spent the summer in Dr. Scott Parnell’s lab studying how prenatal exposure to alcohol, cannabinoids, and other substances can cause birth defects differently in males and females! 🔬 #CarolinaSummer

🧬 Hats off to Carolina Summer Fellow Sofia Canoutas-Nadel, who studied how special brain cells protect against alcohol-related damage while working in Dr. Leon Coleman’s lab @LeonGColemanJr. Her research shines new light on brain healing! #CarolinaSummer

🌡️ Impressive research poster! This summer, Carolina Summer Fellow Janiya Allen presented her work in Dr. Morika Williams’ lab @MorikaWilliams aiming to improve how mouse body temperature is measured to help make research more accurate! #CarolinaSummer

❤️ Carolina Summer Fellow Kayari Harris explored the effect of CXCL5, a proinflammatory chemokine, on fat and heart health while working in Dr. Jonathan Schisler’s lab @NitDawg @TheSchislerLab. Important discoveries for heart disease! #CarolinaSummer

⚙️ Extra! Extra! Carolina Summer Fellow Nathaniel Connolly investigated how specific protein domains regulate calcium channels at synapses in Dr. Sam Young’s lab. Key to understanding nerve signal control! Huge thank you to his bench mentor Dr. Jianing Li! #CarolinaSummer

🌱 Carolina Summer Fellow Kalybe VanWatermeulen from the Jonathan Schisler Lab @NitDawg @TheSchislerLab studied how Panax Ginseng may help cells fight damage, opening doors to exciting new therapies! #CarolinaSummer

🧩 A big thank you to Carolina Summer Fellow Dania Abu-Ghosh, her work in the Ryan Vetreno lab revealed how adolescent stress causes lasting brain inflammation that affects memory and mood. Vital research for mental health! #CarolinaSummer
