This weekend’s 5K race for @GOTRI Western MA left me feeling energized by everyone’s dedication and enthusiasm. Girls on the Run teaches girls the importance of physical activity and helping others. Congratulations to all on a wonderful event.

Each year, the students of UMass DesignBuild design and construct one new home. I met with this year’s cohort who are working directly with the future residents to design a home tailored to their needs, a powerful example of community-centered learning in action at UMass.

Stopped by a training session to support our @umassfootball Minutemen as they gear up for the upcoming season. A big thank you to the team and to Coach Harasymiak for welcoming me. I hope to see you at McGuirk on August 30 as we kick off the season. @umassathletics #MACtion

Next in my Amherst area summer bucket list: ✅ The @DickinsonMuseum in Amherst is the former home of the poet. Many @umassph students have worked here as interns or guides. ✅ Next was @SpfldMuseums. Through internships, UMass connects students with this foremost institution.

Meeting families and friends of the #Classof2029 makes clear that our community-building begins well before move-in day. Welcome to the UMass family! @new2umass

You shared Amherst area recommendations—here's a look at where I've been: ✅ Ice cream at @Herrells, where our @umassfoodscience students’ flavors are featured. ✅ Great meal at Protocol during Amherst Restaurant Week. ✅ Coffee at @WorksBakeryCafe – a student favorite.

We were happy to host local officials, friends, volunteers and event organizers at the @UMassSpfld for a kick-off celebration for the city’s annual Puerto Rican Parade. Hosting events like this reflect our commitment to staying connected to communities across the Commonwealth.

UMass empowers students to do better for Massachusetts and beyond. With that in mind, I was honored to travel to D.C. to share our accomplishments and opportunities with the Congressional @HispanicCaucus, a group advancing priorities that matter to the Hispanic community.

Maritza and I recently attended a preview of the Reptiles Alive! exhibition at Chicago’s @fieldmuseum. My favorite part of the evening was hearing UMass Amherst alumnus Dr. Sara Ruane, Associate Curator of Herpetology, share the groundbreaking research happening at the Museum.

UMass Amherst Foundation’s event in NYC highlighted the essential contributions of @UMassHFA, @UMassLibraries and @umassfac in blending social justice and cultural exploration with artistic creation. Support the Accelerate campaign here: bit.ly/4gaFQhu

I had a great time in our capital at the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting, where I connected with so many leaders dedicated to moving Massachusetts forward. It’s always great to be in the room with people who care deeply about our state’s future.

I had the opportunity to speak at the Fed Listens event, the goal of which is to gather input to inform the Federal Reserve’s policy strategy. Thank you to Susan M. Collins, President & CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, for the opportunity to join the conversation.

We wrapped up Commencement weekend with a celebration of Master's and Education Specialists grads. To our newest alumni — your dedication and passion have brought you to this moment. You carry UMass with you, and we can't wait to see how you shape the future. #UMassGrad2025

This morning, we celebrated one of the highest honors in academia – when doctoral degree candidates receive their traditional hoods. As I looked at these 300 plus students, I was moved thinking of what they have accomplished so far and the opportunities that lie ahead.
This morning we had the honor of celebrating the remarkable achievements of our doctoral students at the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony. Surrounded by family, friends, & faculty, our graduates received their hoods, which symbolize years of dedicated research & scholarship.
With this week’s ribbon cutting ceremony, the Orchard Hill Pavilion is now open to the UMass community. Kudos to Professor Emerita Sigrid Miller and the design team at Sigrid Miller Pollin Studio. And, what a treat to see former Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy back on campus!

Big thanks to Het Parikh, a junior in College of Engineering, and adjunct faculty member Ryan Wicks for letting me learn the ropes of safe and reliable drone flying in CE-ENGIN 651: Piloting Unoccupied Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). It was such a fun and interesting experience.

We gathered in Springfield for our first annual Community Partner Award Breakfast. Together, we celebrated the 2025 and 2024 Distinguished Community Partner Award winners: the Baystate Medical Center Department of Nursing Research and the Amherst Elementary School Garden Program.
