I welcome the statement today by the National Committee into the coastal violence in Syria. Its report and recommendations are an essential and timely committment to the pursuit of truth, justice & accountability for all Syrians.

Relieved to see @SyRedCrescent convoys now in Sweida. But much more humanitarian assistance is urgently needed. Essential to uphold the ceasefire agreement and get life-saving support to those who desperately need it.

What I take from this is a clear message that there will be accountability for all crimes, including those currently being perpetrated in the south. All Syrians must be protected and all Syrians must be held accountable for their actions.

It was a great privilege to meet the White Helmets @SyriaCivilDef today. For over a decade they have worked tirelessly to save the lives of those worst affected by the Syrian conflict. Since 2011, the UK has provided the White Helmets with £70 million to support their efforts.

After over a decade of war and oppression, the Syrian people have hope again. Syria matters to the UK. A stable Syria reduces the risk of illegal migration and terrorist threats to our national security.
