Just remember on 8/13 when school ratings come out what a farce they are because not every school coughed up 50 extra tax dollars PER STUDENT so as to have an ACTUAL HUMAN correct the many software grading errors. Just remember that.
This year, a staggering 37% of the STAAR Extended Constructed Response (ECR) essays that Alpine ISD submitted for rescoring were originally scored *incorrectly* by the state’s AI grading system. And by "incorrectly," I mean: underscored. Y'all. 37%! 😲 (#TxLege, take note.)
If you love Dan Patrick then you will love Mayes Middleton.
Taxpayer funded lobbying is the USAID of Texas. Your tax $ are used to hire lobbyists that then lobby against taxpayers. Banning the practice is the toughest fight in Austin because it defunds the deep state—and that’s exactly why I lead the fight to end taxpayer–funded lobbying!…
Very few people have any idea of all the things that some superintendents get to do!!!
Hanging out with some good folks in Pampa for our 8-hour bus driving recertification! #🚌
STAAR failure rates based on faulty AI grading hurts students, teachers, campuses & districts. Students may be forced into unnecessary remediation, teachers may miss out on TIA bonuses, campuses & districts will receive lower ratings than deserved. Fix this @teainfo #txed #txlege

There's also something here about emotional labor. Leaders often avoid early feedback because we think we're being kind and extending grace, but we're actually transferring the emotional burden to the new person who has to wonder if they're meeting expectations
If you have new people on your work team, don’t wait too long to address things they are doing that you don’t like. Telling them early is good clarity. Waiting 2 months to address something they started doing day 1 makes them wonder why “all of a sudden it matters”.
What’s the ETA on that cell phone policy guidance from @teainfo ?Asking for a friend…
Banning “taxpayer-funded lobbying” is actually Community Censorship. It’s silencing local voices advocating for local students, parents, schools, communities & taxpayers. Why do mega donors get a voice but locally elected Trustees from 1,025 ISDs don’t? No to SB 12 #txlege
The war on “taxpayer funded lobbying” is really about consolidating megadonor power. Review article from March.
Messaging apps used by coaches and band directors are an essential tool in communicating last minute changes that often occur. There is no “Chromebook” equivalent. At least let students check at lunch.
Having to pay 50$ per student for a human to regrade our STAAR tests was a big cost. But discovering our underscored results has radically improved our projected accountability ratings.
I hope the Texas legislature take a moment to rethink the cell phone bill. I think most every campus can get behind preventing the use of cell phones during class time. But there are lots of reasons why allowing students to use them during lunchtime should be a local decision.
This is an account you all should follow. Here she breaks down the pay extra for accuracy flaw in 3-10 ELA grading. Must read for Texas students, parents, superintendents, ELA teachers.
On the eve of the #TxLege special session, let's talk about the inaccuracy of STAAR Reading Language Arts AI scoring, and how these errors provide undergraded results to students, parents, and teachers, that then propagate through the state's Accountability System. A #TxEd 🧵.
This equipment plus Zwift is a life changer. Wahoo Kikr smart bike trainer, with fan, and heart rate monitor.

Let's explore *why* so few (0.1%) STAAR RLA tests might be submitted for rescoring statewide. First, what's the process to request a STAAR ECR rescore? Districts receive this email from TEA with "info." (Can you find the part about submitting a rescore?)
Even more concerning, Accountability for elementary and middle schools are based *solely* (like, 100%, y'all!) on STAAR scores alone. Those same STAAR scores that were undergraded by an AI grading system. Those same STAAR scores that were at least 6% incorrect.
37% of these *parents* received inaccurate results from the state of Texas regarding their child's writing performance, progress, and statewide percentile rank. 😲
More (and better!) insight on this topic! It is affecting you if you are a 3-10 student. It also affects ELA teachers, parents, or district or campus admin
