I will never understand why the breakaway formation on the Paris stage doesn't just start from 100 km to go, like don't they all just want it finished asap and viewers would also enjoy racing?

The reason the Pog/Merckx comparisons make the most sense for me is not just the winning, it's this peripheral way he gets treated and talked about. The only 2 guys I can recall/read about who had rivals openly begging to leave them some scraps.
