We are unionizing with @SAGAFTRA. Proud to stand together with my colleagues at @WeMakeWLRN in asking management of @WLRN to voluntarily recognize our union so we can begin the process of collective bargaining. Because the union makes us strong.
Today, we — the hosts, reporters, producers, digital content creators and others — of WLRN are proud to announce our intent to unionize with @SAGAFTRA, becoming the first public radio station in Florida to do so. #WeMakeWLRN
NEW investigation from me & @TooMuchMe With local, state, and federal powers aligned in Florida, many worry that closer ties between local officials and ICE could erode trust in law enforcement: keeping communities safe could become much more difficult. wlrn.org/government-pol…
Actually laughing out loud that someone thinks I am anti-rail. And about that second part about Florida not giving any money for grade separation or other things - factually incorrect. More reporting to follow.
You can and should believe all that, and you can also believe that this is an anti-rail hit piece in a state that won't give a single dollar to Brightline to make grade separations a thing.
We worked on this investigation for a year. If you think you know this story -- you don't. Also - there is a podcast. Search for "Killer Train" on your podcast app or by clicking here: wlrn.org/podcast/killer…
NEW: @MiamiHerald / @WLRN investigation reveals 182 people have been struck and killed by Brightline trains. While key safety measures are delayed, Brightline remains the deadliest passenger train in U.S. We compared with other railroads to explain why. miamiherald.com/news/local/art…
The DDA literally employs people to sweep the streets of downtown Miami. They also do economic development - giving money to mega-corporations to move their business downtown. No one mentions that a single corporate landlord owns half of downtown.. meaning abandoned properties.
Just a walk through Downtown — the part the DDA doesn’t show you. While they hand our money to billion-dollar brands, this is our reality. #wewantout #ddashakedown #sosdowntownmiami #brickell @miguelgabela @Damianpardo8 @downtownMIA @IamChristineEsq @FrancisSuarez @tessriski…
NEW: We found that Miami-Dade has been in breach of a federal court settlement for almost 3 years -- which should protect some jail inmates from being handed to ICE. Meanwhile, the mayor is asking permission to tour Krome - where many are being sent. wlrn.org/immigration/20…
According to new Census data, Miami-Dade experienced the highest net domestic migration of all Florida counties in 2024 — meaning more people are moving out of Miami-Dade than in domestically. miaminewtimes.com/news/more-peop…
NEW w/ @wilkinebrutus: The vast majority of new ICE agreements w/ local police allowing them to do immigration enforcement during routine traffic stops are in Florida. People studying this since 9/11 say it will gut trust between community and police wlrn.org/government-pol…
New: Right-wing influencer and self-described misogynist Andrew Tate has landed in Ft. Lauderdale. Romania reportedly lifted its travel restrictions on him following pressure from the Trump admin. miaminewtimes.com/news/self-desc…
Updated w/ comment from Tax Collector's office, which made deal w/ FHP. They say it has nothing to do with immigration, but that safety issues may have increased bc "heightened tensions" surrounding Trump's orders to remove "gangs, terrorists, and illegal criminals" from the US.
NEW from me: New powers will allow Florida police to interrogate, arrest suspected undocumented immigrants Plus: DMV offices across MIami-Dade could soon have immigration officials permanently stationed there wlrn.org/government-pol…

Fla House Speaker @Daniel_PerezFL just announced he's creating 4 workgroups to look at budget vetoes exercised by @GovRonDeSantis last year. "Upon conclusion of its work, each workgroup will submit its recommendation for further legislative action, if any...." to Perez & others
Rubio in a press conference in Guatemala today said Trump's plan to clear Gaza of all Palestinians is an act of generosity, and that at some undetermined point in the future Palestinians would be let back in after first being removed state.gov/secretary-of-s…

Reminds me that shortly after Fidel Castro took power he banned race-based organizations -- mostly Afro-Cuban organizations -- and he constantly said that was because racism had been "defeated" by the Revolution, which was always laughable
Have verified that this memo circulating from West Point is real. H/T @PeterLucier
