Today I had the honor of serving as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Co-Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on the Judiciary at Interims. We have had excellent deep dive working sessions. I am focused on serving my constituents in my district and the people of WV
Congress must change the law to provide clear limits on Presidential military powers without a congressional declaration of war. I will work to make this happen as US Senator.
While the Constitutional authority to declare war is squarely in the hands of Congress, the President does have legal authority under current US legal precedent for this operation as interpreted by the courts.
Iran will not have nuclear weapons. Under the Ayatollahs, a nuclear Iran is a danger to the entire world. I salute the decisive action by President Trump. When a country has threatened our nation repeatedly with destruction, as Iran has, we have the right to defend ourselves.
