World leaders & UN member states have a moral obligation to hold Taliban responsible for gender apartheid in Afghanistan and their crimes against humanity. Afghan women shouldn’t have to conduct hunger strikes, to the brink of death, to call the world's attention to their plight.

1/5 45 years ago, Russian invaded Afghanistan—killing, maiming, and displacing millions. The mujahedin rose up, claimed victory, then turned their guns on each other, dragging the country into civil war and chaos.

2/5 The Taliban, heirs to the mujahedin, ruled through fear, sheltered bin Laden, & enabled 9/11. After being ousted by the US, they waged jihad not just on foreign forces but on Afghans tied to global orgs—claiming their “pure” Islam rejected all foreign influence.

3/5 Over the past 5 years, d Taliban—once defiant of the world—have been throwing themselves at d feet of Russia, China & the West begging for recognition, all while banning girls from school, women from work & erasing them from public life.

4/5 4 years has passed & women still lack basic rights. Poverty is rampant, mothers & children die of hunger, & hopeless women take their own lives. Meanwhile, Taliban leaders grow rich, take multiple wives, flaunt U.S. war gear & claim feeding d poor is “God’s job,” not theirs.
