Delighted to release BFPG’s 2025 Annual Public Opinion Survey. The survey highlights a watershed moment in UK foreign policy, as Britons turn their back on the ‘Special Relationship’ and pivot dramatically back to Europe. Here are 10 key findings - a 🧵(with graphs!).
We're delighted that Islington North nominated our recommended candidates for both CAC and NCC
A group of determined organisers have rebuilt Islington North CLP, with the goal of moving it into what one describes as the “mainstream” of the party. Read more here: labourlist.org/2025/07/news-l…
And who turned up the thermostat?
There were 33k asylum seekers in hotels at the last count, far fewer than 56k peak in Sep23. Main difference now is the political temperature.
📣 NEW for @LabourList - @joejervis89 & @HughGoulbourne: "Rachel Reeves has an opportunity to leverage the Small Business Strategy, recognising 5m small&medium businesses as the true engine of our economy. "Growth from the bottom up and middle out." labourlist.org/2025/07/commen…
The ever insightful @fhpitts has a great new analysis out today (unherd.com/2025/07/is-cor…). A big part of defining what anything is, is being clear about what it is not. FWIW I dont think the geopolitical enemy works because all major parties agree. Its not a difference maker.

Our thanks go to MPs @alancampbellmp, @SarahEdwardsTam, @SKinnock, @EFoody and @lukejcr, as well as Metro Mayors @KiMcGuinness, @RichardParkerLab, and @DSkaith... plus @ewankirk, @SageUK, @CO2Sense, @UniOfYork and @avivaplc for their support on this project.
Writing the foreword for the report, @gareththomasMP says: “It is heartening to see MPs, Mayors, and activists within the Labour movement working closely with business communities” on proposals. He received the report on 2 June.
*NEW TODAY* The Chancellor needs growth. To do this, she needs to ‘Think BIG’. Our new report sets out how the Small Business Strategy can help businesses grow the economy ‘from the ground-up & middle-out.’ Read it here: labour-renaissance.org.uk/levelling-the-… THREAD ⬇️
Very good analysis which I would supplement by adding that there is still time to break out 'the mess' but it will *hurt*. Some people/interest groups will have to lose, and that sacrifice will have to be sold to the whole nation.
The Mess We're In: the government won't tell the truth but even if it did voters don't want to hear the truth. open.substack.com/pub/alexmassie…
If I were to update Reagan’s nine most terrifying words “I’m from the government and I’m here to help” for Britain in 2025 think they’d be “I’m from the government and I can’t help you”. The politics of “government can’t” are a huge driver of current sense of Broken Britain
Planning not my subject but very worrying to have orgs like @LabourYIMBY so disappointed. Former Biden admin people identified planning as major blocker of their infrastructure led growth agenda. Labour can't meet the same fate (and we need to build 1 million+ houses!)
Labour Yimby are disappointed by the Government’s decision to concede to the Nimby lobby on the planning reforms this country so desperately needs. For the first time the Labour Government is backing the blockers, not the builders. 1/

To mark Labour's first year in Government since 2010, we asked each Mission Champion for their thoughts on the Government's progress & what is still to be done. Read the third in the series, by @sarahsmithlab, Opportunity Mission Champion, below⬇️ progressivebritain.org/labours-opport…
Everything about our chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan was a disgrace. This latest chapter, outlined by @lewis_goodall, is perhaps the grubbiest and most worrying of all. goodallandgoodluck.substack.com/p/my-two-years…

At #PMQs @Keir_Starmer said the UK had the highest growth in the G7 in the first quarter of this year. This is correct. We’re tracking the government’s pledge for the “highest sustained growth” in the G7 here👇 fullfact.org/government-tra…
At a time of cratering trust in politicians and widespread conspiracism I cannot think of a more damaging thing to have come out, and to come out like this. Genuinely think Keir needs to do an address to the nation explaining what has happened and why it's not still happening.
Keir Starmer says that former Tory ministers have 'serious questions to answer' over handling of massive data leak that endangered lives of Afghans and the subsequent super injunction
Great insights from @progbrit @ppi on how to ensure progressive politics maintains its connection to working people. It's not enough to only deliver, people need to know why we are making decisions and that we care.
Thank you to our MPs and AM @damienegan, @ABarrosCurtis, @lukeakehurst, @kirstyjmcneill, @zubirahmed, @GraemeDownieMP and @anne_clarke for attending and sharing how this key mission translates across your constituencies and the wider PLP.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Summer Reception last night!☀️ It was a fantastic evening filled with great conversations, between friends old and new. A special shout out to our speakers, and to all our members for being part of such a memorable night!
