Community and Rutgers Engaged Science
@TheOfficeCARES
Welcome to Community and Rutgers Engaged Science (CARES) at Rutgers University-Newark!
The Office of CARES had the opportunity to celebrate Lead Awareness in collaboration with the Irvington Health Department. At CARES, we believe it's important to attend community “led” events to support local organizations!

The Office of CARES visited all 6 Newark public branch libraries and engaged with community members to recruit for the psychology research database! We want to give a special thank you to all of the branch directors who provided us with this opportunity!

The Office of CARES has partnered with the Newark Youth One Stop Center and Newark’s Mayor's office to host two interns! These individuals are assisting with community engagement and participating in an introductory college experience to form the foundation of their future!

The CARES office was fortunate enough to celebrate Juneteenth with @KIPPLifeAcademy. It was amazing to learn about the history of this holiday and educate people about how to get involved! Thank you to all who made this day special!

Thank you @EyesLikeMineInc for inviting us to your annual Dancing With The Blind event! It was amazing to gather as a community for this celebration!

⭐️4/16/25⭐️ CARES was invited to participate in the Township of Irvington community baby shower where we recruited new mothers for our research database as well as provide donations gathered by director Dr. LoBue assisting over 40 mothers with gently used and new items.🍼🐣

⭐️4/11/25⭐️ Community liaison, Rosalina and Ph. D student Piper, participated in Thurgood Marshall Elementary School Career Day They both were able to inform students about their current career paths…This fun filled morning left everyone with smiles on their faces!

Earlier this month we got to attend CASA’s “Getting it Done” conference. @span_lab_run PI,Dr. Smith, gave an interesting talk about how predictability and safety shape children’s experiences of adversity!!

Earlier this month, we volunteered at the Pantry for the farmers market! We got to support the RU-N community and alleviate food insecurity in the area. If you’re interested in becoming a pantry ambassador, reach out to @pantry_run 🍍🥒🥕

For this years Read Across America, we partnered with schools across Newark and Irvington. This event promoted literacy, community engagement, and mentorship while fostering a love for reading among young learners! Thank you to everyone who participated!📚📖

Thank you to all of the community organizations who played a pivotal role in contributing to the success of our first on-campus event! Check out the full post on our Instagram page⭐️🌱👥
