Great costumes and set pieces are more important than most anything else for an actor. The best can play pretend anywhere with fake props, sure. But even average actors can give a top tier performance when they look around and feel like they *are* that character in that world.
This is why LOTR movies were so good. Also, why everything now sucks. When it’s all about a check and the passion isn’t there it seeps into the final product. Every time

Maybe in like 10-15 more years someone will make a new adaptation of LOTR and stick even closer to source material. BUT take the good ideas over the years and reimplement those too.
