Familial Hypocalciuric Hypercalcemia (FHH) is a rare genetic condition that causes high blood calcium but very low urine calcium. It’s caused by a change in the calcium-sensing receptor gene, and it can look a lot like primary hyperparathyroidism—but it’s not the same! #PAM2025

Parathyroid cancer is very rare—seen in less than 1% of people with high calcium and PTH levels. But when it does occur, it often presents with: 🔹 Very high calcium (often >14 mg/dL) 🔹 Extremely elevated PTH 🔹 A large parathyroid tumor #CheckYourCalcium #PAM2025

Some patients with primary hyperparathyroidism have all 4 parathyroid glands enlarged—this is called hyperplasia. In these cases, surgeons often perform a subtotal parathyroidectomy, removing 3.5 glands and leaving just enough tissue to keep calcium levels normal. #PAM2025
