the uk is literally banning like ANYTHING online for minors. anything that has to do with sex, naked people, sexual organs is banned. i've seen people saying they can't use the endometriosis subreddit anymore because of it. this is actually insane
There's a clear reason why they're targeting Wikipedia. It's one of the last bastions of the promise the web once held to be a great equaliser, putting easy access to information in the hands of the masses, and there's nothing those in power fear more than an informed public.
Under the new law, the UK media regulator Ofcom is poised to label Wikipedia as a “Category 1” platform. This would impose the strictest content rules possible - such as: - age verification for users - identity verification for contributors - censorship of ‘harmful’ topics.
