Finds for the week in Southeast IA: Common Smut developing on Billbug damaged corn, Japanese Beetles doing what they do, high heat showing us where roots/moisture is limited, and finally a Periodical Cicada - because that’s just fun! Have a great crop growing week

Finds for last week in SE IA: Pollen rot tucked under leaf sheaths, some pollination misses from the high heat, Bacterial Leaf Streak, and Western Rootworm Beetles doing what they do. Have a great week and stay hydrated!

Finds for last week in SE IA: Physoderma Brown Spot, a few pollination ‘misses’ during our recent high heat, tightly wrapped tassels mid week, and finally Preceon (short corn) doing it’s job protecting against high winds Friday night. Have a great week!!

Finds for last week in SE IA: Gray Leaf Spot is the corn disease front runner, silks are growing (watch for clippers), spider mites stunting beans where rainfall has been average but coarse soils dried out, and a beautiful evening cloud display after some very welcome rain!

Finds for last week in SE IA: My first Tar Spot sighting (Des Moines Co), Japanese Beetles coming in hot, European Corn Borer for those with conventional corn, and wonderful conditions for disease development. Have a great week!

Finds for last week in Southeast IA: Sulfur deficiency continues to emerge, Potash deficiency stunting corn, Wireworm damage in stalled out areas, & some hard charging DKC68-35 (N MO). Have a great week!

Finds for the week in SE IA: curling corn from hot/dry last Monday, residue effects on sb growth, healthy bacteria fixing N on V2 sb, corn tillers aplenty pointing towards happy/productive corn plants. Have a great week!

Finds for the week in SE IA: a very welcome rain, NH3 burn, ground squirrels growing corn completely underground, and FINALLY - growing conditions to promote rapid growth! Have a great week

Finds for the week in Southeast IA: combines are rolling hard, new farm average highs are coming in (rain helps apparently), and all the extras from; drainage, to fungicide, to proper fertility to genetics matched to practice/environment are showing good returns - stay safe!

Finds for the week in Southeast IA: SDS progressing, small areas of Rootworm feeding exposed by wind, Septoria Brown Spot, and a beautiful lady that was duped into marriage 26 years ago (we’ve been together for 31 and yes, she’s very patient - I married way up!!)

Finds for the week in Southeast IA: Southern Rust blows north, Sudden Death Syndrome appears as soybeans fill, Corn Leaf Aphids came early enough to stunt plants/ears, darkened husks with saprophytic fungi pose no threat. Have a great week!!

Finds for the week in Southeast IA: N loss slow to show after lots of rain, Sulfur deficient leaf on the left (lighter/smaller, hard to distinguish), some happy corn attempting multiple ears, and several more storm fronts roll through with excess rain in spots. Have a great week!

Finds for the week in Southeast IA: severe Crazy Top infection after a brief flooding (sucker, 3 ear formations & the ‘crazy’ tassel), light areas are Crazy Top infected plants on the lower ground, and Corn Leaf Aphid depleted leaves vs a normal lower leaf. Have a great week!

Finds for the week in Southeast IA: a few more Tar Spot lesions showing up, Common Rust as widespread as I can ever recall, Corn Leaf Aphids creating some dense populations (could hinder pollination) and another bug (Stag Beetle) in a year full of unusual characters. Happy Monday

Finds for the week in Southeast IA: Cercospora and other hot/humid loving diseases starting (GLS next?), tassels starting, ear shoots from one plant - such possibilities, and a gorgeous evening sky. Have a great week folks!

Finds for the week in Southeast IA: Rootworm damage on 3rd year corn in Poweshiek Co, Group 15 symptoms in SB fairly widespread, hail damage SB snap after following wind storm, silks starting to emerge-watch for clippers (Japanese & CRM)

Finds for the week in Southeast IA: Holcus Leaf Spot (generally cosmetic bacterial infection), first Japanese Beetle of the year, lightning bug display makes me hopeful a large chunk of rootworm larvae drown, and replant sins surface. Have a great week!!
