I met Mama Nour in #Sudan in my first week in the job. People like her remind me what humanitarian work is really about: courage, compassion, and never giving up.
This is Mama Nour. In the midst of war and chaos in #Sudan, she's helping women and children survive. Because of courageous women like her, we hold on to hope in humanity, even in the direst of times. Here's her story: bit.ly/4kL75B5
Syria: violence in Sweida is warning that hope could evaporate fast. Aid convoys from Syrian Arab Red Crescent, inc UN supplies, much needed first step, but more needed. Thanks to Jordan FM and US envoy Tom Barrack for progress. As @DrTedros says, ‘peace is the best medicine’.
Trying to get the lifesaving convoys moving in Sudan, Gaza, Syria. Navigating disinformation, disruption and smears. Tough staffing choices. Latest interviews and podcasts. Echoes of Live Aid. New Humanifesto 👇 linkedin.com/pulse/humanife…
Sudan: working phones for access to areas hardest hit by fighting, including El Fasher and Tawila. Frustrating work - battle lines move, different groups in and out of equation, conditions make it hard to shift trucks quickly when we get opening. Needs massive, rains coming.

Thanks to team for their courage and humanity, in tough times. Today’s global town hall gathered thousands of colleagues to discuss the brutal choices we have had to make. Tough. For transparency we’ll release my speaking notes. Protect the mission.
Enough. Gaza is starving. Ceasefire now. We must save as many lives as we can – and we have a plan. My update to UN Member States on the steps necessary to stop this horror👇 unocha.org/considerations…
Ceasefire. Ceasefire. Ceasefire. We have tonight shared our plan to reach everyone in Gaza. We are ready. Enough. Let us work.
We hold all parties to the standards of international law. We don’t have to choose – and we must not choose – between ending the starvation of civilians in #Gaza and demanding the unconditional release of hostages. My remarks at Security Council:
✈ @WFP_UNHAS is how we reach people who would otherwise be unreachable. Let’s keep it flying.
Just spoken to @_jwhittall, our superb head of @ochaopt. He’s in Deir el Balah, Gaza, with Israeli airstrikes intensifying. Surrounded by our team, and civilians we stay to help. Exceptional courage and integrity on humanitarian frontline. They are best of UN. And all of us.

Thank you @Tammamo and @newhumanitarian for challenging and thoughtful questions. A chance to unpack political dynamics around this moment of flux and uncertainty for humanitarian movement.
“It's not just a financing crisis. It's a crisis of morale and legitimacy.” #RethinkingHumanitarianism guest @UNReliefChief @TFletcher talks to @Tammamo about the “ humanitarian reset”, and what stands in the way of deeper change. 🎧: buff.ly/uY60gqT

Excellent day in Berlin with Foreign Minister, parliamentarians and media on future of humanitarian action, and Germany’s vital support for it.
Kriege kosten Billionen.
Tom Fletcher, @UNReliefChief pleads for support amid crisis and funding shortfalls in the #DRCongo, as he wraps up a visit to the eastern regions. news.un.org/en/story/2025/…
In besieged El Fasher, Darfur, civilians are cut off from aid and at risk of starvation. Every day without access costs lives. I’ve held a series of calls this week on an urgent humanitarian pause. Let us work.
Access is backbone of our mission. Without it, we can’t save lives. In DRC, that means opening roads, rivers, runways – using persuasion and pressure to reach people in need. As I wrap up my visit, I salute tireless work of humanitarians out there today on frontlines.
I’m in eastern #DRC, where over 20 million people need support. We’re planning ahead to stop deadly cholera outbreaks before they escalate – saving lives, time and resources. Humanitarians call this anticipatory action.
