E+R=O* explains football success: Quality of football response = SKILL x SPEED Good football players have skills. Great NFL players have faster speed to skilled responses. Caleb has the skills. He’s building speed of skilled responses. *Event + Response = Outcome
What’s going on at camp? Here’s some interesting stuff from Bears coach Ben Johnson today on Caleb Williams.
Every team is perfectly designed to get the results it's getting:

History screams at us, but no one listens: Success ruins people more than failure. People climb from the depths of failure only to fall from the heights of success because while they learned how to fight through adversity, they never prepared themselves for life after success.
Avoiding disastrous decions and devastating errors is more crucial to success than talent or brilliance. Because talent and brilliance will not save you from the consequences of a disastrous decision.
You earn in alignment with the strength of your discipline. No amount of blaming, complaining, or defensiveness changes the universal laws of cause & effect. Strong personal discipline produces better and earns more than weak personal discipline. Simple, accurate, reliable.

Excited to dig in to this one. Thanks for the resource @TBrianKight #DMGB
Let your kids struggle. Not all day. Not so much it breaks them. Not for the rest of their lives. But for the sake of their future and ours, let your kids struggle and learn early how to deal with friction, adversity, self-reliance, discipline, and the weight of responsibility.
Talented but undisciplined players create stress for coaches. Literally … coaches lose sleep staying awake at night thinking about these players, not just as athletes and teammates, but as people. • “Why won’t they just do the simple things we’re asking?” • “How can I make…

Prioritizing the right things when you practice means leaning into discomfort.

I needed this message last year. I will use it this coming spring. Thank you!
Resistors on your team? Try this leadership messaging: “I’m not against you. I’m for you. I’m for this team. I’m for the mission we are trying to accomplish. Whatever is necessary for us to achieve our mission, for our team to succeed, and for you to succeed, I’m going to act…

Whatever you’re hiding from you will eventually face. By choices in your control or by forces beyond your control. Because eventually there’s nowhere left to hide. Hiding from fear. Hiding from yourself. Hiding from the truth. Hiding from criticism. Hiding from adversity. Hiding…
You don’t believe what you see. You see what you believe. Think about that for a full focused minute before you keep scrolling.
Thinking of discipline as an on/off switch is detrimental to your health emotionally, physically, and socially. This either/or approach creates dramatic swings in your behavior. There’s a better way. Think of discipline as investing in things you value, one action at a time.
Want better team execution? Execution is a product of behavior, not talent or scheme. Personal excellence drives team execution and excellence. Great execution happens because of behavior skills and leadership skills. They must be taught, trained, and led.
