This was a historic week for AI policy. President Trump gave his first major speech on AI, the White House released its AI Action Plan, and President Trump signed three important executive orders. If you missed it, here is a recap of the major themes and actions. 🧵
BREAKING: The EU Commission has released a mandatory template for AI developers to disclose training data. Unlike the Code of Practice, this is not optional. It could have global fallout, as rights holders abroad might use it to sue over copyright. digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/library/exp…
To correct my earlier post, the trial length wasn't doubled, but increased by a third - with 5 additional trial days added at the request of the @FTC
The @FTC has won its bid to double the length of its #darkpatterns trial against @amazon to 20 days, with each side getting 10 days (2 weeks gulp) to put on their case. Trial scheduled to begin in late September. mlex.com/mlex/technolog…

In what could be some interesting testimony, Meta legal VP @stevesatter now taking the stand, formerly vice president of privacy and public policy. Now associate general counsel for privacy.
Nice work being an #privacy expert witness, if you can get it. Meta and Flo expert Zervas says he's earned over $200,000 in fees from the companies so far, while Serge Egelman for the plaintiffs acknowledged well over $100K in fees yesterday.
Next witness up in the #FloHealth @Meta #privacy trial is defendants' expert Georgios Zervas, a marketing professor at Boston University: people.bu.edu/zg/ He's a founding member of the Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences at BU.

Karkanias says Flo was right to use the @Facebook #SDK. "If you didn’t use an SDK, it would be unreliable at best. You would not be able to guarantee its performance. You would not be able to rely on the fact that it would operate as you intended."
Good morning from the first-ever #BigTech #privacy jury trial, against Flo Health and @Meta . This morning we're hearing testimony from defedants' experts, startig with Jim Karkanias: linkedin.com/in/jimkarkania… who will counter plaintiff's expert testimony.
Delta is planning to use AI to mine our data and set fare prices. It’s incredibly dangerous and could even lead to situations where they ramp up fares for passengers who need flights urgently because of a death in the family. I’m pressing for answers on this alarming scheme.
It’s going to be interesting to see how enforcement dynamics change at the @FTC now that there is a minority again.
Excited to be heading into the office this am! Top of the to-do list: calling a vote on restoring the Click to Cancel Rule. It’s time the FTC gets back to protecting consumers from real abuses like subscription traps that cost Americans countless hours and millions of dollars.

Statement by reinstated FTC Commissioner @RKSlaughterFTC
BREAKING: DC judge rules Trump admin's attempt to remove @RKSlaughterFTC from her position as a commissioner did not comply with FTC Act’s removal protections, and those protections remain constitutional. Judge dismisses @BedoyaUSA claims without prejudice.
