Owner - GrindTime Stump Grinding | Replacing my $175k W2 income with a Stump Grinding Business
I Quit my $175k W2 tech sales job to grind stumps. How’s that for a 2024? The most exciting part of the journey is that I went from never making a dime of money on my own, to doing $9k in revenue my first month as an entrepreneur. Here’s how it happened:

Another day, another $1,500. Worked with a new tree guy. He loved not having to have his guys grind, but still getting the job done on the same day. Another loyal customer. Chasing roots got a little nasty, but at this point, the dirtier I am = the more money made.
Couple times a week I get a LinkedIn notification that someone from my old tech job viewed my profile. They’ve gotta be thinking: “No way this dude’s actually making money.” 😂
21 stumps smashed. Ended up being a $4200 day. The other 4 we had planned weren’t ready yet so we bumped those to next week. Terrain got nasty in a few spots but the machine pulled it off. What a day!
I was unfamiliar with the climbing boulder game.

It is 9:40 AM and we have done $1,200 in revenue so far. Complete outlier of a day, but you gotta be in the game to have days like these🤝
It’s a huge STUMP DAY Awesome night at the Spanish fork Rodeo last night. Back on the horse this morning for a huge job. 25ish stumps, let’s go!

This is why I come home caked in dirt everyday. Huge dirt clouds. $1,400 day today. $5k city job scheduled for tomorrow. I have 8 business days until my year mark in business. Going to do every job I can to push that 1st year number higher. Let’s go!
Shoveling in a calorie deficit = shoveling on hard mode. 20 lbs down this summer and am the strongest I’ve been in a while. Feeling good!
Job I just quoted: Customer: The bid to beat is $500 Me: You’ll want to take that then, it wouldn’t be worth it for me. Customer: Well what would you bid? (Very clear that he didn’t have another bid.) Me: $1,000. Customer: Can you do $800? .. Why do people lie like this?
Not the most fun day, but we pushed through and still did $1,200 in revenue. Wait for the fun sprinkler Easter egg on this one!
A lot of church buildings in Utah. A lot of trees at those church buildings🤝

225 x 12,11 on bench this morning. 315 is happening this year. Happy Sunday!
Trying to explain to a random person that: 1.) I run what’s called a “stump grinding business.” 2.) I’ve built a decent following tweeting about stump grinding. Is impossible to do without sounding insane.
Friday afternoon Diet Coke hits different. Can someone tell me why gas stations often have Coke and Pepsi products but restaurants don’t?

Just one more job left and we started leaking hydraulic fluid. Two things I’m proud of: 1.) I can now smell instantly if there is Hydraulic leaking. 2.) I know how to trouble shoot and swap an o-ring. Not advanced at this stuff at all but getting better
