#OTD in 1985, “Smoky Joe” Wood passed away at the age of 95. Though arm fatigue caused an early end to his pitching career, in the early 1910s, there was nobody better than him on the mound. Here’s my painting of him with Boston in 1909, based on the photography of Carl Horner.

A 🧵 about #Royals Hall of Famer, Denny Matthews. Matthews grew up coming to games at Wrigley Field. With some exhaustive research, he and I have confirmed that his first game in this ballpark was on Sept. 29, 1948. He is here today, calling his 57th season of Royals baseball.
