The publishing world is unwilling to face fundamental truths e.g. that sex is binary and can't be changed. So why should they bother if a biographer isn't honest about her backstory. Why are people upset about #TheSaltPath, when so many books out there are telling bigger lies?
I found this article about attitudes to fact-checking in non-fiction publishing interesting. I'd love to hear about whether publishers think an onus on books' 'sensitivity' has come to outweigh the importance of factual accuracy, within publishing houses. observer.co.uk/news/national/…

There is a weird, sad pleasure about 'unfriending' on Facebook. They're all just vague former acquaintances. When I really value people, we can usually do thoughtful disagreement. Even onfeminism and the Middle East.
Partway through @ProfAliceS's report. It's a tough read. All too often universities have strayed from being places of free enquiry. It's as if their aim is to close minds, rather than opening them. Those who graduate are then likely to seek to shut down enquiry in wider society.

Down about the people who used in a vague way to be friends. From my writing days. From being a Quaker. So many of them posting about boycotting Israeli businesses, about how terrible it is that a Jewish guy is on the BBC board. So we're supposed to disappear from public life?
