In 1824 the Lilleshall Company brought into blast two new furnaces at Old Lodge. These Old Lodge Furnaces produced cold-blast pig iron of the finest quality. The furnaces were closed in 1888. The site is now in Granville Country Park in Telford. #History #Shropshire
This stone carving of a winged phallus pulling a cart of little phalluses dates from around the 2nd century AD. The Romans believed that the image of a phallus protected against the evil eye and often placed them at risky locations. This one is from the Roman site of Wroxeter.
