We are moving! I'll miss all the wonderful people at OSU and am so fortunate to have spent the last 10 years here. We are excited to start the next chapter of the Shafaat Group at @uclachem in July! chemistry.ucla.edu/news/welcoming…
Celebrating the wonderful visit from @MatthewGaynes from the @ChristiansonLab to discuss their beautiful Terpenoid cyclases reactivity and structural characterization using X-ray and Cryo-EM techniques. We enjoyed your talk, chatting with the group, and sharing your science.

Shoutout to our outstanding undergrads — Sofia, Megan, Ryan, and Isaiah — for showcasing their research at the UCLA Chemistry Undergraduate Research Symposium! Great work all around! #UCLAChem

We are delighted to announce that Professor Christopher Chang (Princeton) has won the 2025 Chemical Science Lectureship! rsc.li/chemsci-lectur… Chris will deliver his Lectureship at the 2025 #ChemSciSymposium on 18-19 November in London, UK: rsc.li/chemscisymp2025
Check out our POTW! Thanks, James, for highlighting this study using ultrahigh-throughput FACS to screen 10⁹ variants/day! Engineered enzymes showed up to 16× improved activity on highly stable N-aryl amide & carbamate bonds. bit.ly/4mAn4nB
Congrats, Josephine and the team!! Check out our newest mechanistic deep dive into R2lox: Isotope labeling and EPR spectroscopy reveal that this Mn/Fe enzyme activates C–H bonds to form a unique Tyr–Val crosslink via a Mn⁴⁺/Fe⁴⁺ intermediate. bit.ly/3Fkybjw
Big shoutout to the team who rocked the Willow Community School Science Fair this weekend! We had so much fun making ‘oobleck’ to show off non-Newtonian fluids and letting kids get creative with pH indicator art. Nothing better than sparking curiosity!

What an exciting full-circle moment! A fantastic opportunity to host the @ManesisLab visit to collect resonance Raman and hear the latest research updates from their grad student (and former undergrad) Riley. To top it off, a special lab outing with delicious food in Los Angeles!

Check out our #potw! Thanks Christina, for presenting this cool work characterizing N2O-producing multicopper oxidase from the Lancaster lab @LancasterLabCU. Read to learn how this work explains the enzymatic origin of N2O by ammonia-oxidizing archaea! pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
