#ICAD Tweetorial: Intracranial atherosclerotic disease is the most common cause of stroke worldwide accounting for nearly 10% of ischemic strokes in the United States and up to 50% of ischemic strokes in China.
#MondayTip Infective #Endocarditis and Stroke 🧠🦠 Stroke is a frequent complication of IE, especially in the early phase ⚠️ Thrombolysis is not recommended due to a high risk of intracranial hemorrhage, but ✅ mechanical thrombectomy may be considered in selected patients

Cortical vein thrombosis is a very challenging diagnosis to make. Imaging findings = hyperdense cortical vein & cashew nut sign (juxta-cortical hemorrhage) on CT. MRI with SWI is the gold standard (below). Make sure to look carefully at all cuts including topmost! #stroke #CVT

Congratulations to UCSD NCC's Dr. Mahta for being selected as the recipient of the 2025 Positive Champion of the Learning Environment from Brown University! Your commitment to students, leadership in teaching and mentoring are appreciated across your many communities!
Check out this review on perioperative stroke. It is important to think abt stroke risk in patients undergoing surgery as these stroke increase mortality and morbidity. There are several things that could be done to mitigate this risk. Be on the lookout for a prediction score 😳
#STROKE: Topical review by @ShuLiqi et al. critically appraises the literature on perioperative stroke and identifies promising areas for future research. #AHAJournals ahajrnls.org/4na5FCh @NguyenThanhMD @shadiyaghi2 @NicoleBSur @BrownNeurology
Game 7 of NBA finals on! The icing on the cake of a great series!

Interesting findings of the COBRA trial showing lower bleeding risk with apixaban compared to Rivaroxaban in VTE. This may partially explain some of the discrepancy in findings between the SECRET trial (using Rivaroxaban) & ACTION-CVT in patients with CVT (2/3rd used apixaban).

Hot off the press, carotid revascularization may be superior to medical treatment in patients with symptomatic carotid artery webs. Excited to start the multicenter SPIDER-WEB study which will provide more insight on this issue. #stroke #annalsofneurology onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/an…
Incredibly grateful to have been recognized by residents for education, mentorship & advocacy. Being a physician is a privilege - one that comes with the power to advocate and the responsibility to be a voice for those who are too often unheard.
#MondayTip Residual risk of stroke despite OAC in AF 🚨Risk Remains High: 1 in 6 patients experiencing a recurrent IS within 5y 🌎Real-world cohorts: 2x the recurrence risk vs RCT ⏰Urgent need for research to identify high-risk patients and to develop new therapeutic approaches
