Now relocated to East Yorkshire, birder trying to take better photos. Travels a bit, when possible. Interested in mammals, butterflies and dragonflies too.
Third time lucky! Greatham Creek Pacific Golden Plover today. Tried my hand at Digiscoping 😬
Bullets incoming! Alpine Swifts heading to drink in Lesvos early in May.

After a couple of failed attempts previously, it was good to find 3 White-letter Hairstreaks this afternoon including this fresh individual.

We visited the Farne Islands this year for the first time in many years - the views of the (Atlantic) Puffins were spectacular as always! June 2025

Honey Buzzard - Yorkshire 2025. After only getting distant views or nothing at all, we finally got lucky this Spring!

My first Bedstraw Hawkmoth and in my own garden this morning. Planting for wildlife is paying off 🙂
A day for enjoying insects in the fabulous weather - Hummingbird Hawkmoth in the garden and Silver-washed Fritillary near Scarborough 😊

Collared Pratincole - the widely travelled bird in the U.K. this summer. Photographed at RSPB Frampton a couple of weeks ago. After being largely hidden for much of the day, it finally gave a close fly-by!

Another 2 tick day on Friday! Collared Pratincole at RSPB Frampton Marsh then the Savi's Warbler at Rimac...what a great day
We had great fun trying to capture this Red Veined Darter in flight. The first one I have ever seen and just down the road 🙂
After an arrival of insects onto the coast around Flamborough, we found several Red-veined Darters - only the second time I have seen them…

2nd tick in a week and still in Yorkshire! Ortolan Bunting at Wykeham Forest 16 June 25
Well worth the early start today - the female Ortolan Bunting gave lovely views, and was even collecting nesting material!

Another local twitch for me this week! Song Sparrow Flamborough Headland 10 June 25
The reappearance of the Song Sparrow at Thornwick this morning was welcomed by all who thought we had missed it!

Barred Warbler - Lesvos 2025 The best (and most obliging) of 4 that we found this year. Another bird seemingly in better numbers than I have seen previously?

Little Bittern from Lesvos, May 2025 There seemed to be more of these on the islands than on my previous visits.

This male Eagle Owl was a huge highlight from our short trip to N.E.Spain in February - watching him 'singing' as the light faded is something I will always remember!
