Senator Hashmi
@SenatorHashmi
State Senator for Virginia’s 15th Senatorial District. Chair, Senate Education and Health Committee Democratic Nominee for Lieutenant Governor
I’m honored to be our Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor.

It was wonderful to join Chesterfield County Public Schools families from every zip code this evening for El Librotazo—the Big Book Party. Through community partnerships, every student was able to select five books to bring home, helping instill a love of reading.

I’m excited to be in Alabama, y’all, for the 2025 Southern Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments! As the recently-elected Chair of the SLC Education Committee, I know that we will have comprehensive conversations about the education systems within our states.

Proud to join @SenatorHashmi at today’s National Day of Action honoring Congressman John Lewis, five years after his passing. It was inspiring to see everyone out making #GoodTrouble together and standing up for our civil and human rights.
It is an honor to be recognized as the State Senate 2025 Legislator of the Year by @VEA4Kids. Through our collective efforts, we have secured historic investments in public education, expanded mental health services, increased supports for our students of greatest need, & more.

CNBC’s Warning on Federal Job Losses Is a Wake‑Up Call for Virginia’s Future. When Virginia wins at education, we win in economic stability and prosperity, and we regain our standing as an economic and talent leader in the country. Read my op ed here: richmond.com/article_574d82…

I am proud to support Botanical Garden workers in Norfolk in their right to organize with @IAM_Union Local 10. I encourage management to engage in good faith as workers advocate for a safer and stronger workplace.
The Trump administration’s decision to freeze critical education funding is an unacceptable blow to Virginia’s families and children.

Honored to join Masjid William Salaam and MCT Islamic Center for the 2nd Annual Muslim American Heritage Festival, in celebration of the richness and diversity of the Muslim communities and their contributions to the Commonwealth.

Instead of state leadership that continues to rubber stamp the chaos of Republican leadership in Washington, we need leaders who will fight for Virginians.

With Trump cutting 30,000 public servant jobs, many of them Virginians serving Virginia veterans, why won’t our statewide leaders fight back? Virginia needs executive leadership that will fight for our public servants and Veterans, not bend the knee in subservience to Trump.
Major staffing reductions announced just now by US Dept of Veterans Affairs 30,000 employees by end of September ====>

At a time when families are already stretched thin, this bill harms Virginians even more. It’s time for leaders who will put Virginians, not Trump’s special interests, first.
The passage of Trump’s disastrous tax bill is a stunning betrayal of Virginia families. As Virginia’s next Lieutenant Governor, I will keep fighting to protect Medicaid, defend reproductive freedom, lower costs, and ensure no Virginian is left behind.
Joined Black Women on Deck and @SpanbergerForVA for a meet and greet in Alexandria tonight! Thank you to Keren for hosting.

Republicans are plowing forward with the Big, Ugly Bill. So far, we’ve forced votes to remove $1 TRILLION in Medicaid cuts, protect rural hospitals from closures, undo nutrition assistance cuts, and more. Republicans blocked them all. They only care about billionaire tax cuts.
